Hsv2 on top of thigh

Diagnosed with hsv2 from an outbreak on top of thigh (almost on knee). My doctor couldn't tell me for sure if transmission could still occur via vaginal intercourse but said it was unlikely and that someone's sex organ or mouth would have to come in contact with the outbreak on my thigh. Is this true? I know I should be trusting my doctor as he's always very knowledgeable on anything I bring up during our visits but I just wish he was positive. not finding any real information on the web about non genital outbreaks so I've been struggling to get a better understanding of this.

Explain the outbreak and when was the last time you had Intercourse? You can have an outbreak anywhere in the boxer shorts region as hsv can surface anywhere in that nerve ganglion.

So my question isn't about whether or not it's hsv2 as That has already been confirmed by my doctor. I hadn't had sex for a couple years before the first rash and I had sex a few times after the first rash but nothing unprotected. Second rash occurred a little over a year after the first. After the diagnosis I have yet to have sex but only because I'm not dating in general as I'm super busy with work and volunteering. But it would be nice to know if ultimately even though my outbreaks are going to occur in this small patch near my knee, if it's possibly to pass through intercourse. I'm glad I googled after the second time because I had no other symptoms outside of this extremely itchy rash. I haven't had a cold in over 15 years (though I've never lived a "healthy" lifestyle diet wise) so maybe thats why.
Ok. I was just trying to figure out if this was a primary outbreak or recurring. Chances are high your infection would shed from the genitals as well.
Thank you so much for your response, it's greatly appreciated. Just out of curiosity, are you a physician?
I am not a physician. Just a guy who has fat to much time invested in researching the virus. The problem I've found is most physicians don't know much about it or the knowledge they have gained from old text books. Like your Dr for instance. He said someone's mouth or genitals touched that area. Hsv2 is rarely an oral infection and only shed on average one percent of days. It also takes friction to massage it into the skin. There are many people who get outbreaks on the anus or butt. They claim to never had anal sex. This happens because the virus can show up anywhere in that nerve area. Hence the boxer shorts region.
I sent you a pm on another option for you to seek your answer.
Got ya. Yeah my doctor didn't say that's how i got it, they said someone's mouth or genitals (or mucous membranes) would have to come in contact with it (the rash near my knee) for them to catch it. He gave me the same schpeel you did about how I may have caught it and that that's just the area that it will show up on me.

Thank you again for responding:)
Gotcha.
