I Cant seem To Understand How Herpes Works

Hi :)

I have few question that I really hope to get answers for to clear up my mind:

1- What does herpes outbreak mean? does it mean that many blisters will show up or what exactly?

2- How can a dermatologist distinguish between herpes blisters and other types of blisters (I know he/she cant be sure 100% but what makes him/her say you need herpes test)?

3- When you say herpes is painful what does it mean? what I mean is that what kind of pain would I feel?

4- Can I have more than lets say 10 herpes blisters at different areas at the same time?

1. It depends on the person. A primary (initial) can have many painful blister type lesions along with flu like symptoms. These include fever. Swollen lymph nodes and body aches. Or it can be more mild and go unnoticed noticed or passed off as something else like pimples or folicus.

2.hsv can be difficult to diagnose by sight alone. If it looks like it could be herpes they should swab the lesions. Usually people come in with symptoms within a week of a sexual exposure. So all the information a Dr gets goes into a serries of tests and diagnosis. Never go to a Dr and have them tell you it's hsv. Have them type specific test through a swab and or pcr test.

3.the pain from lesions. An very from mild discomfort to debilitating pain. Especially if the lesions are in the urethra.

4.no. hsv lesions cluster in multiples or a single lesion can appear. To have differant lesions all over the place would be very rare and seem to only happen in rare cases where someone's immune system is gone. Like advanced AIDS. you can get clusters on both sides of the body with a bad primary outbreak but the won't be all over.

5.it could but for someone like you who is on the look out, it's highly unlikely!!

Herpes lesions can hurt when forming and healing. Or not really at all. Again everyone is a liitle. Skin can itch while they are forming but mostly (like any wound or sore) when they scab and are healing.

thanks alot,
I'm really sorry but I forgot to ask one more question, when does herpes blisters start to hurt/itch? when they are there or when they start to crust and open (heal)?

It means you could have a small cluster on the left side and right side of the vagina or penis. That sort of thing. You most assuredly would not have them all over the public area. That would be more like a bacterial or fungal infection like folicus

thanks alot your answers were clear and I understood them well except for number 4 :)
I didn't get the last part where you said i can get clusters on both sides of the body with a bad primary outbreak but the won't be all over. Does it mean it's normal to have clusters all over the pupic area for example?
