I wonder if he has herpes

Hello Dr,

A few weeks ago I received a series of tests/blood work for an annual routine exam.  The results of the blood test stated that I have HSV. I have never had any oral and genital outbreaks.  Last week, a guy that I recently started dating performed oral sex on me for the first time. The next day he had flu-like symptoms(watery mouth, fever, upset stomach and a sore throat). On day two the flu-like symptoms were gone and the sore throat persisted. It is now day five and he only has a sore throat which seems to worsen everyday. He went to the doctor. The Dr. did a throat test/culture on him and said they would send it in for a second opinion because they could see nothing wrong with him. He continues to complain only of his throat hurting really bad.  Could he have contracted oral herpes?

Wow.. Thanks Terri,

I am relieved.  That would be awesome if you could help me sort out my test results.

My GYN did a battery of STD tests along with HIV/AIDS testing. They all came back negative. I was encouraged to fast the night before all of the testing, which I did, because they took blood work the same day. Within less than a week I was called in to the office to go over the results of the testing. This is when my GYN told me the STD/HIV/AIDS testing were negative and my blood work showed that I had HSV.  That's all I know at this time. I didn't know to ask about HSV1 vs HSV2.

I will get a copy of the results and  post them so that you can help me sort them out. Thanks so much Terri.

I seriously doubt that.  His symptoms don't sound herpetic to me
Can you tell me more about the testing that you had done?  Can you get a copy of the results so I can look at them and help you sort out the results?  There are many herpes antibody tests around, some good, some terrible, some individual, some combined.  If you post them, I'll help you more.
