Confused like many of you:(
I had a hsv1 igG type spec blood test which was NEG
I also had a hsv1 igG type spec blood test which was NEG
BUT I then there was a combined test called- hsv 1 & 2 igG Rrflx 1-2 type sp which read 5.7 HIGH indicating a POSITIVE result.
What does it mean? My doc seemed as though it was from a previous infection or another health problem. I have never had a cold sore/or gential sore and I am in my late 30's. The reason I had this test is because I want to get pregnant.

thank you so much. i have no friends i feel i can share this with and i dont want to tell my partner until i know for sure although i have told him about my symptoms he assures me they are nothing. my doc did not want to do the blood test yet, he started me on levaquin and famvir and i have had a low grade fever since my surgery. i kid you not i sat with a mirror in front of me for two hours and actually saw the second lesion form from a reddish bump to shinny to open in that time. ill try not to worry but my middle name is worry. it has helped me to write this and again thank u
I hope your test comes out NEG. I am new to this site and I have never had a sore but I have had cruel boyfriends...believe me that was punishment enough. Try not to worry now because there is nothing you can to before you get the results back. Hopefully, Grace will be able to help you but if the sore looks like the previous one that was cured w/ antibiotics I would not be overly concerned. My thoughts are with you. I am glad you found a wonderful man and I know he will be supportive no matter what life brings your way.
I feel I am going to die. I have only been with two men in my life. I had surgery recently and the day after experienced alot of general swelling. I noticed one side of my vag was swollen too. A lesion developed that day that resembled an open sore no pain except when urine came in contact with it. My doc put me
on an antibiotic and in 7 days it started to clear up but another developed next to it. now the prior lesion looks like the latter one. i am so scarred and so ashamed. my ex husband was a cruel man with whom i never enjoyed sex and my current partner is wonderful and made me realize sex is awesome i feel i am being punished. doc took a swab test today and i will know in a few days. i feel so so sad.

Yes, both separate HSV 1 & 2 IgG TYPE SPEC tests were <0.91 NEG but the combined was considered HIGH. It was confusing but now that you say it has a high false positive it makes sense. I was nervous because most posts were saying Igm was inaccurate and or meaningless but the IgG was accurate.
I also want to say thank you for keeping this community open. I have read some of the posts and you are always so informative and genuinely seem to care. Keep up the good work & many blessings to you.

The combined test is what is positive for you. I think you had a typo with your specific testing that you posted but both were negative. The combined test has a high false positive rate and isn't really a good test to chose for any adult. Disregard the results sinc eyour type specific test results were negative.
