Hi Doctor,
I recently went to my current PCP for my annual checkup. I like to do a full work up just because I rather know than not know. Even though I normally ask for a full set of labs blood test including all viruses, this is the only time HSV was checked for. I know this because with this last set of labs I asked for copies of my labs from this year and the previous year which HSV was not tested for.
According to my results I have HSV Simplex type 1 and 2. These are my results: Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 IgG H 47.80, and Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 IgG HH 10.20. Underneath type results it states "The magnitude of the report index is not indicative of the amount of antibody present in the patient sample. The results of the assay are not by themselves diagnostic, but should be determined in conjunction with clinical findings, and other diagnostic procedures as well as in association with medical judgment." My PCP told me I herpes type 1 and 2. Asked if I ever had any symptoms, I said no forgetting a cold blister I had years ago. He also told me to follow up with my OB/GYN, and to re-test in a couple of months.
I do recall having a cold sore a few years ago. I tend to get very worried about my health and went to my previous PCP a few weeks after explained about the cold sore and had blood work. Supposedly the blood work came back negative, but I did not see the results for myself. My PCP told me not to worry about it, and to come back if I ever have another cold sore. I have not had any cold sores since. I have never notice any blisters around my genital or anus.
I am very worried about my results because they seem very high compared to other people's results that have posted questions on this website. Also, the disclaimer, below my results, have me confused. Are the numbers too high that there may have been other factors that affected the results? Should I get re-tested? If so, what test should I ask to be performed?
Thank you in advance
