Is herpes contagious even is scabed over and not breaking ipen?

I would like to know the contagious period of herpes. I have herpes whitlow that is now a scab. No more fluid, no seaping or breaking open of the scab.  Is it still contagious?

so you had a lesion culture that confirmed whitlow?

we recommend keeping it covered until the skin returns to normal - that includes the scab falling off.

It's definitely less contagious than it would be if it was in the beginning stages, but it is still likely contagious, but the viral load is less. Herpetic whitlow isn't easily transmitted to others for the most part due to the thick skin on the majority of the body with the exception of the mouth and genitals.
