Just Got Tested for Herpes. What's Next?

Hi,

My doc just tested me for Herpes 1 and 2. The last time I was tested for Herpes was November 2016. My doc believes there's a 90% chance that I don't have either one. I haven't experienced any cold sores, lesions, fever, chills etc. since that last test in November. I'm also on PrEP, which reduces the likelihood of HSV-2 transmission by 33%. My doc expects worse case scenario is that I have HSV-1.  I have quit a few partners over the past month and have engaged in oral sex quite a few times. None of my partners have had cold sores or anything out of the ordinary that I could see. I've also engaged in protected anal sex as the insertive partner. I've only had one BRIEF instance of unprotected sex for 3 seconds which I stopped before it could go further. Here are my questions:

1. What is the likelihood that I have either one?
2. My doctor says if I have HSV-1, I don't have to tell partners.
3. He says if I have HSV-1, he can't tell me whether it's oral or gential. How does that help me?
4. I get my results on Wednesday. How do I cope until then?

The question was igg bloodtests can detect antibodies even if you have no symptoms. I know last time you had a sore pcr tested. It's up to you if you want to test or not. That being said you have a very high level of stress and negative results will help that. You may also want to consider condoms for oral sex.

How sure are you that this will be a neg test? Sox says 90% chance that it will be. That’s enough for me to personally say no to the test.

How are you going to know if you have hsv if it's asymptomatic? Meaning no symptoms

I figured if I get symptoms, I can get a culture done. That's how my original test was done

1. No way to answer this question. Way to many variables to speculate odds.

2. Your Dr in my opinion is incorrect. I believe you should do the honorable thing and disclose hsv1. In tbe end it's up to you.

3.he is correct. Igg bloodtests can not tell you where the infection is.

4.you will figure that out for yourself. Just try and relax. If this stresses you out so much then consider protected oral sex.

I went ahead and declined the test. If I have herpes, I want to know where it is in my body, oral or genital. I don't want to be worked up and wondering all the time where it is in my body.
