Latest on my situation

Hello Terri I have posted with you before and I still have concerning questions about my most recent tests and symptoms.
Quick break down I had unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex with an escort. Two weeks following I had buring urination and frequent urination with fever and flu symptoms. Prescribed doxy and zithromax no change in symptoms. Irritation of penis for about 6 weeks then burning penis skin for a few days, but no blisters or lesions during that time. Took hsv test at 6 weeks that was neg and an igm test that was equivocal. Couldn't tell which type. Then again at 11 weeks my igg for hsv 2 was neg but igm was positive at 1.6 or something. My doc that ran the test told me to act like I have hsv 2 and tell any sex partners that I have herpes. Then at 12 weeks I took an igg type specific captia test thru labcorp in which I was positive for hsv 1 at 42.8 and negative for hsv 2 <.91 no antibody value. However lately when erect my penile skin seems dry especially after masterbation and I've noticed a tear and some cracked areas below the head of my penis.
1. Because I'm hsv 1 positive how much longer will it take to seroconvert for hsv 2 if indeed I have it, and would I be negative at 12 weeks then positive at 16?
2. How often have you seen this occur? I've read that the captia test takes longer to show positive versus the herpselect.
3. Would herpes show with dry skin and cracks or tears in the skin 10-11 weeks post encounter?
4. I know the igm is unreliable but would it really show a false positive twice? At 6 weeks then at 11?
5. I plan to take another test in a few weeks however I am so confused and have been reading a lot of material on the test I took and it seems as though I have hsv 2 and I just haven't seroconvert end yet. Any other input you could add I would really appreciate it. Thanks for all your help doctor.

No, burning with urination can be caused by urine passing over an open lesion in the urethra.  Burning with urination CAN be a symptom of herpes, it isn't necessarily a symptom of herpes.

This is my final post on this thread.

Okay so burning urination is a symptom of herpes even if there isnt a sore in the urethra. Or does it burn bc urine passes over the sores in the urethra

Frequency is not a symptom of herpes in the urethra but burning can be, but it could also be certainly other things, and more often is caused by other things.

Thanks so much terri i really do appreciate it. Am i right though about the burning urination and frequency. The burning rarely occurs but when it does its because of lesions inside the urethra in men.. And that frequency to urinate isnt associated with herpes??

Your doctor and I are not on the same page about herpes testing - AT ALL.  All of the literature about herpes that is available to professionals say not to use IgM as there are many problems, primarily false positives, with the IgM test.  If you IgG test at 12 weeks is negative for HSV 2, then that's what you need to pay attention to.  With a good degree of certainty, you aren't infected with HSV 2.  We like a final test at 16 weeks, but 12 weeks is also good.

And also doctor the test results at the top from labcorb said that 'this is just a moment in time' not sure if that means i could become positive in the future or im just looking into it too much. Again thanks so much for your help

The real reason I think I have herpes is bc when my doc said the igm was positive at 6 weeks and 11 weeks he told me to tell any future partners that I have herpes then said the igg won't be positive for months. I tried to explain that the igm is a bad test and he said he had never heard that and said you have been recently infected. But both times these were positive I had oral herpes outbreaks. Isn't the igm present for at most 4 weeks after a recent infection?
The only reason I went to my doctor in the first place was bc I had burning ruination and frequency and from what I know about herpes is that the burning urination only occurs in men if there are sores inside the urethra, and that frequency is not a symptoms of herpes, am I right about that? Again my igg is neg for hsv 2 at 12 weeks. Any further advice?

Ive read and also been told that the capita test used by labcorp should be done at 16 weeks bc it takes longer to show positive. How you seen that occur often with that type of test

1.  It would be unusual to be negative at 12 weeks and positive at 16 weeks if you have taken no antiviral medication.
2.  While it will take a little longer to become positive for HSV 2 if you are HSV 1 positive I doubt that it would be longer than 16 weeks.
3. no
4. It certainly could, yes
5.  I'm not at all clear why you think you really do have HSV 2 though the test results say that you do not.

I believe you do not have herpes.
