Legitimacy of IgM test in teenagers

Does a high positive IgM test for a sexually active 16 year old mean anything?  I know there is a question as to whether the test is even useful in adults. (not sure what number is, only that doctor said it was a recent exposure and had to wait 3 months to test again to find out if it is HSV-1 or HSV-2).  No IgG showing up yet. Thanks for any help.

correct, you'd need to wait and have the type specific herpes igg blood testing repeated 3 months after the last time they had had sex.

This was just a screening because the partner claimed to have tested positive for hepatitis. Not sure about herpes.  But no clinical symptoms are being reported. If the test is meaningless then I assume there is really no way to know if the 16 year old has herpes unless the test comes back high positive IgG and/or there are symptoms?

herpes igm testing shouldn't be done on a teenager either. a + igm is meaningless.

any chance of her partner getting tested for herpes?  has she had symptoms or was this just a screening?
