odds are this is just your first obvious recurrence of a previous hsv1 infection and not something you contracted from sharing a drink anyways. most of us contract hsv1 orally as children and never even realize it.
have you ever been tested for herpes before?
if you are concerned about genital symptoms, be seen and get a proper exam done.
The risk is still low. It takes more than just a touch of the virus to get in. It needs heat and friction to take hold. How were you diagnosised as having your first cold sore?
The thing is that I had just got a cold sore on my lip for the first time so I don't think I have any antibodies yet.
The virus doesn't transfer from the lips to the genitals on the same person as you already have antibodies that will fight the infection in a new location of the same type. Now if your partner doesn't have the same type of HSV (or have HSV at all) then you can transmit it during an outbreak.
No, no sexual contact whatsoever. I know I had a cold sore on my lip, I am just worried because I know that it's possible to transfer the virus from lip to genitals and I have been having some tingling and pain in my genitals. But no genital bumps or sores or even redness. So I think I must be imagining it, but the symptoms feel real.
you wouldn't have symptoms in the genital area from drinking from someone's straw
do you have a partner? have you kissed anyone and/or had sex/oral sex in the last 2-3 weeks?
