Grace: Five weeks ago I had a high risk encounter. It was unprotected insertive anal at a gay bath. Obviously, much guilt plays on my mind and I do consider that as I gauge symptoms. It's the only episode of concern. Seven days after possible exposure, I first experienced unexplained back ache. Within a few hours I had right butt check pain, right calf and ankle ache. The next day I had a mild fever, very mild, still functioned normally. It went away after two day. I also experience what I think is "swollen" lymph nodes in my neck. That's always been vague for me to determine. Four weeks after possible exposure, after showeringI looked and I thought I saw white pimples at the opening of the urethra, but it either opened quickly or it was something else. I say that because nothing hurt or was sore to the touch. On and off for 4 weeks I'm having weird "electrical" sensations in the toes on my right foot, continued right butt pain, weak ankle, high frequency of urination, burning feelings on the right side of my penis or testicles, dulling achy feelings in my testicles or penis, on again off again minor itchy in genitals. Today, five weeks post exposure, four weeks after symptoms began, I have a pronounced, persistent twitch in my right butt check. I've not noticed blisters or sores.
I look get a blood test in two weeks as that will be seven weeks post possible exposure. I think that's about 70% valid. I am HSV 1 positive, probably since childhood, so that might be why I see no sores. However, I do take regular and consistent prednisone for asthma so I also thought sores would be evident. My last HSV test was Dec 2011 and it was negative. Outside of this event, I've had no contact concerns since then.
I know you can't diagnosis based on symptoms or an online posts, but would such symptoms without overt sores be possible? Also, should sores be present, wouldn't there be some degree of discomfort from them? Finally, based upon your experience, would systemic symptoms last for four weeks?
