My Girl Friend has herpes / trying to educate myself

She is pretty awesome and I would like to have a physical relationship but I have major concerns!

I don't want to become infected! I know that ANY type of sexual contact has risks involved even if I use a condom!

She has genital herpes only from what I know. Said that kissing will not spread this. If I manually stimulate her, again low risk. Oral sex..........that is the big unknown. Not on her but on me! If I don't plan to have vaginal  /  anal intercourse, how much of a risk am I taking with or without condoms?

If I do use a condom for intercourse; how much of a risk am I taking?

This seems like an " all in " type deal to me. Being with her would be great, long term is the goal but sometimes things don't work out and then I would have the stigma of having an STD and lets face it.....how appealing is that to a new /  potential girl friend!

Just looking for some answers..........

if you two did nothing but avoid sex any time she had anything going on genitally, you'd be 96% likelye each year NOT to contract hsv2 from her. her taking daily suppressive therapy plus using condoms on top of that makes you 99% likely each year NOT to contract hsv2 from her.

to give you something to compare it to, her risk of pregnancy while only on the birth control pill without  condom use is 8%/year.

hsv2 and is on suppressive therapy. She has only had this a little over a year and was told she has had two outbreaks over that time.

I do plan on getting testing for STD's just for my own peace of mind.

have you been tested yet to know your own status? if not, you need to seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what type(s) you have so the two of you can make educated decisions about what precautions to take.

does your gf have hsv1 or hsv2?  does she take daily suppressive therapy?
