Not Sure what to think?

I recently was with a male friend who I do not know well. We where kissing and fooling around... I had given him oral sex but he did not do his business in my mouth I looked at his genitalia before and there was nothing abnormal or unusual. Sorry I dont know any other way to say it. I was fine and then 2 days later I went on an 8 mile hike with my son carried on my shoulders the whole way up and down. I noticed the next morning my gums by a back moler where swollen and irritated. As time went on I became sick its day seven and I was told I have strep and a form of herpes thats not sexual we all have it and it may become inflamed if your under stress and you immune system is down. My dentist told me it will cause canker sores and swollen gums and be very painful but should clear in 10 to 14 days. He also said it could be I was worn out and with all the stress I am under (divorce, lots of weight loss, and 3am to 9pm job) my body might have been giving me a warning sign with my immune syatem. I dont know what to think. I feel so foolish for not thinking better and not taking my time. If you could give me any info or ideas of what to do that would be great or even if you could assure me its fine and my dentist is probably right. Thank you so much for your time.

perhaps your dentist meant herpangina not not herpetic gingivostomatitis?

many viruses causes these sorts of issues. if this is herpes, it's more likely hsv1 than hsv2. Go and be seen monday by your regular provider and get a lesion culture to see if that gives you better answers.   also yes indeed strep will give you fevers but it usually doesn't cause the gum issues.

Thanks for that info and no my dentist did not do any testing. He just peeked in and said it was I think not sure Primary Herpetic Gingivostomatitis... My biggest concern is this like herpes HSV 2? I am confused as to what this may cause. I dont want issues with my mouth later. The symtoms I have are very red swollen puffy gums they bleed when i brush I have about 10 canker sores my throat and tonsils and lymphs are swollen I just started forming a canker sore on my tongue today. But before all if this got so bad I had a really high 104 fever and i couldnt eat and have been so tired. I was tested for mono negative but positive for strep could strep cause all of this? Thanks

In addition, as to the oral sex you performed, a one-time encounter is very low risk for herpes transmission this way, although if your partner had genital herpes he could in fact transmit it to your mouth, even if he had no symptoms.

Unfortunately your dentist is very misinformed about herpes. We DON'T all have it, though many of us do.  Oral herpes for many of us is contracted in childhood from a caregiver/relative. In adulthood, 1 out of every 2-3 people we kiss will have oral herpes, it's that common. It's transmitted by skin to skin contact with someone who has it.

Canker sores are not oral herpes. Herpes does not become "inflamed" either, but if one has it the outward symptom when having an outbreak is a cold sore, typically on the lips/mouth area. Swollen gums would not be typical for herpes.

Only a blood test or swab/culture of symptoms can diagnose herpes. Did your dentist do any testing?
