Stopped taking Valtrex burning came back

Today I decided to stop taking my daily suppressant of generic valacyclovir ( I was taking two 500 mg a day 12 hours apart) and my genitalia and scrotum sensitivity/discomfort/burning came back.

When I pull on my scrotum through my boxers it starts to burn all over.

The last two weeks I was taking the generic I had a stiff neck and slight headache most of the day. Today I only had a very small faint feeling of stiffness in my neck.

I went to the orthopedic in the afternoon to get a true diagnoses of sports pubalgia/sports hernia which he said I definitely had. He did press on the hernia spots that caused pain and burning but I had the genitalia sensitivity and burning earlier in the day.

This does cause burning as he said the torn muscles are irritating the nerves in the region. He suggested oral steroids or a corticosteroid in my pubic region to relieve the burning/pain.

This is starting to really get to me as HSV2 isnt supposed to cause this sensitivity/burning all over the scrotum/genitalia. Whenever I touch it it burns even more.

I will again start to take daily antivirals to see if this sensitivity/burning goes away. Again it is only on my scrotum and genitalia and I wasn't feeling this the past 2 weeks on antivirals.

I also can't go everyday having a stiff neck and headache the entire day being on the daily antiviral.

Thank you fleetwood. I have read that herpes doesnt cause the scrotum to burn and maybe that is true but my scrotum was on fire and I took valacyclovir 2 hours ago and it is already starting to dissipate.

I am already HSV2 seropositive with no outbreaks, diagnosed end of April with IgG type select at 8.46.

The day after the diagnoses is when all the symptoms started and have stopped since. I had no symptoms or problems the 6 months prior that I had to have had HSV2.

I will be getting a corticosteroid shot for my sports hernia and I will see if it helps.

I'm sure you realize that my view would be that if you do not have a herpes diagnosis do not take antivirals. How do you know this isn't a placebo effect?

HSV does not cause scrotums to burn. There are far fewer nerve endings there and the skin is so thick.

Go with the hernia issue and the appropriate treatment.
