Oral to genital herpes

Hey Doc,

Is it possible to transmit hsv-1 to someone's genitals through oral sex, if the person receiving the oral sex already has hsv-1 and has gotten cold sores on their lips in the past??
Last night i performed oral sex on my girlfriend for max 2 min. Once i was leaving i felt a small bump on my limp, with no visible spot or pain. However, i have never had a primary outbreak of cold sores and have not been exposed to it recently. The bump on my lip now has a small little scab type thing on it and it is sort of raised but there is no pain or itching or anything. Do you know what it might be?

I thought the initial herpes outbreak was extremely painful, could it be a painless bump like i am experiencing?
My main concern though is if i gave my girlfriend genital hsv-1 through this encounter?

Thanks for your help!

Cold sores generally do go through a process yes, they move from blisters to ulcers to crusts and scabs to resolution.

Thanks!
Just one more question.. if the little spot does not get progressively worse or start to hurt does that mean that it is not a cold sore?

Thanks Again

If your girlfriend already has a history of having cold sores, it is very unlikely, though not impossible, that she would get HSV 1 genitally.  It is possible that your symptom is oral herpes that might be new from kissing her or might be old from years ago and you just never recognized symptoms before, or maybe it isn't herpes, but rather a pimple?  Hard to say, but in terms of her, she is probably OK if what you have is oral herpes.
