Outbreak in long term relationship

I have been in a monogamous relationship with my husband for about 4 years.  Last week, I got what looked like a herpes outbreak!  I was totally confused so I went to a gynecologist who also thought it was herpes.  I had the blood test and got: HSV 1 Igg- 0.1 and HSV 2 Igg- 2.0 (both Igm were negative, but I've read that they're somewhat obsolete, wish I had known that before- could have saved me $100!)  I've read that the lower the number, the more recent the infection.  But how could that even be possible that I was only recently infected?  I 100% trust my husband and there is no way infidelity is even an option.  My husband is going to get tested as well, but his results won't be back for a few weeks unfortunately.

Any insight to this situation?  Thanks!

It says positive for HSV 2 Igg more than 1.1, but 2.0 is still considered "low positive", right?  I unfortunately don't know which type of test they ran, as I do not live in the USA/Canada area.

So the numbers you get on Igg don't necessarily tell you how long you have had the virus?  I just think it's strange I would be infected after 4 years together, and we don't use condoms (I'm on birth control).  I sort of assumed it was me who had it all along, and this was just the first noticeable breakout.  But is that possible with such low numbers?

As for re-test, should we wait until my husband gets his results and then go get re-tested?  Should I get HSV 2 Igg only?  I ask because each test is $50 and I'd like to not have to pay for frivolous exams (like the Igm, curses!)

The numbers I believe are dependent on the manufacturers kit. If it is Herpeselect then it could be considered a low positive. The only real way to appreciate if you have a recent infection is to have a negative followed by a strong positive at a subsequent test with potentially low to mid range values in between. Reaching conclusions from a single test is very difficult.

How could this happen? It is entirely possible that you or your husband were infected prior to the relationship and you have just had a recurrent outbreak or just been recently infected by your husband. In many instances, infidelity is not a factor in the outcomes.
