Passing it along...

If my partner has HSV-1 on her mouth and I have HSV-2 on my genitals, can we pass each other's virus along to one another?

There aren't any long term side effects. they have info on folks being on acyclovir suppressively for 25+ years now.

We have so far only abstained from sex entirely during an outbreak (I haven't had many) or anytime I feel a prodrome.
We are exploring suppressive therapy, and are actually wondering about any long term side effects of taking such.

Your hsv2 is the issue more than your partners hsv1 is. Studies indicate that hsv2 offers significant protection against contracting hsv1 but not vice versa.

Are you taking precautions to protect your partner?  daily suppressive therapy?
