Please help! Is this herpes?

I'm worried that this might be herpes, though from my research, I really can't tell.

Two days ago, I used a new type of menstrual pad that came in a carboard box rather than sealed in a plastic wrapper, and the next day there was a thin line running down both labia majora where the skin was irritated and peeling. So I thought it was pad rash. This morning, upon further examination, I noticed that just outside my pubic area between my vulva and buttocks there was a dry red patch on one side and a small, bright pink bump on the other. So far, the bump doesn't hurt or itch like cold sores, but the dry red patch itches and is peeling.

I really hope this is contact dermititis or something else that will go away, but I'm really scared that it's herpes. What do these symptoms usually indicate?

The best thing to do is to follow up on this with your provider to see what is going on.  It could be many different things.

Oh, and two more things that might be contributing factors:
1) I had to terminate a failed pregnancy last Friday (was doomed to miscarry)
2) I'm on hormonal birth control (the ring)  for the first time in my life
