Possible HSV infection from homosexual oral sex

Hello,

I am a young male in a long-term heterosexual relationship. 3 weeks ago, I gave unprotected oral and I received unprotected oral msm. No one ejaculated during my encounter with them nor did I ejaculate. The total experience lasted about 5 minutes.

The next couple of days I noticed a burning sensation when urinating and a sore throat.

Day 7 - Burning during urination was getting worse so went to GP and did urine test for gonorrhea and chlamydia, was negative for both and no bacteria in urine.

Day 10 - On the 9th and 10th day, the burning was very painful during urination that I was avoiding drinking anything so I didn't have to pee.  I was also having stinging at the tip of my penis when touching it or if it moved in a certain way.  The tip was enflamed and there was a small clear discharge (looked almost like urine), it was extremely painful.  I was also having pain in left side of pelvic region. Returned to GP and they did urine test and swab; gave me a shot of antibiotics and z-pack. Also prescribed me 5 days of ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice a day.  I got my results back a couple days later and I was negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia.  She gave me some medicine to stop the pain during urination and that helped a lot, I took it for a few days.

Day 14 - Took antibiotics and things were getting better but still having slight pain and burning during urination.  My sore throat is still persistent and my neck has felt swollen for a few days.  Pelvic pain is still present.

Day 21 (today) - Painful urination is gone, I think completely.  Having bad pain / sensitivity in my pelvic region on both sides, it hurts to lay on my stomach or even my back, I can feel them pulsing.  Went back to GP and confirmed I never had bacteria in urine and no bacterial infections so antibiotics shouldn't have done anything really.  She put in antibody tests for HIV and HSV-1 / HSV-2 igg tests.  I know it's only 3 weeks but I wanted a baseline test because I believe I'm negative both HSV-1 and HSV-2 as I've never had a cold sore or anything as long as I can remember.

Anyways, my neck is still sore and it's hard to swallow.  GP doesn't think it looks all that bad and didn't swab it or anything.  Pain in pelvic region is really annoying and throbs constantly.  Assuming this is HSV-1 or HSV-2, how long will these symptoms last?  I've read on expert forums that oral to genital transmission is typically HSV-1 instead of HSV-2 (when answering a heterosexual poster), is this true for male to male oral sex as well?

I'm seeing a urologist in two weeks as recommended by my GP.  I guess it will help to rule out other things while I wait the long 12 weeks for the accurate HSV tests.  I'm scared, afraid and alone.  Deep down I know this is what it is and I cried for the first time in years.

I'll follow up with test results as I get them, just hoping someone is out there to help talk with me.  Thanks.

Quick update.  I still have pain in my penis all day everyday for 3 months.  It's horrible, like living in hell.  Anyways, the point of this post is to update for anyone experiencing the same thing... I do not have HSV.  I took my 12 week test and the results were the same as the 3 week test...

HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 0.4
HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 1 IGG <0.2

Reference value:
Negative: Less than 0.9 AI
Equivocal: 0.9 - 1.0 AI
Positive: Greater than or equal to 1.1 AI

I'm going back to the urologist to follow up with next steps.  I won't be updating this post again.

Quick update.  I took 10 days doxycycline 100mg twice a day by recommendation of GP.  After finishing antibiotics, I am still having urethritis and saw a urologist.  Urologist says he did not see anything abnormal and put me on anti-inflammatory medicine for 3 weeks to see if it helps. I have just spotted a small blister type lesion on the side of my penis.  If it continues to grow or pops I will get it cultured; otherwise I have an appt for 12 weeks post-encounter to get HSV tested once again.

Anxiety can really get us worked up. Your risk was quite low so dont be overly worried about herpes.

Updating with results.  It's only 3 weeks so I expected negatives, this will give me a good baseline for the next coming weeks.  Though this does have me guessing about the whole UTI / bacterial thing, my doc assures me that if it were bacterial that it would be cleared by previous treatment already.

3 week results:
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 0.4
HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 1 IGG <0.2

Reference value:
Negative: Less than 0.9 AI
Equivocal: 0.9 - 1.0 AI
Positive: Greater than or equal to 1.1 AI

Day 22 - Masturbated for the first time since the encounter.  It burned a bit on ejaculation and the penis opening was red, raw, and slightly painful for about 2 hours afterward.  I'm going to see the doc again tomorrow and can't get into the urologist for 2 weeks.  Might follow up with a local STD clinic if GP can't provide any further assistance.

I hope you are right.  I have taken a z-pack, a shot, and a week long course of antibiotics but the pelvic pain is still present and quite painful.  Though I no longer have any pain with urination which is good.

If your having urethra irritations from oral sex its most likely a UTI as bacteria common in the mouth are not common inside the urethra.

Hi Life360, I couldn't see any obvious lip sores but not sure about inside the mouth, I didn't take too much of a look.  I'm clean for all bacterial STDs so that's why I'm leaning towards viral.  The HIV forum says I have no risk with oral sex and along with the symptoms, HSV made more sense.  I'll continue to see doc and follow up to get a correct diagnosis but I can't see what else it could be.  Thanks for the reply.

If none of them had any lip sores at the time your risk for contacting hsv is close to zero.

Also, I am feeling sick with loss of appetite and have body aches overall for the past 7 days.  Is this something that should go away soon?

Thanks again.
