Possible herpes contact

Hello,Im a male and received unprotected oral sex 6 days ago from a someone I dont know.  The act lasted about 30 seconds, I then immediately went to a bathroom and washed off with soap and water . So far ,I have no burning , itching , no unusual spots , no typical symptoms . I have had plenty of nausea but I believe thats from worrying. Should something have showed up by now ? I know the timeline has a very wide range but this worrying is getting to me. My testicles do ache a little but I attribute that to all the twisting and turning I do when looking for something . Thanks for any suggestions or help , hopefully im worrying over nothing.

Oral sex for 30 seconds is a risk, but not a huge one. I don't know if you have a partner you're concerned about infecting, or if anxiety is an issue for you, but your reaction is really out of proportion to the risk level here.

So receiving unprotected oral sex puts you at risk for syphilis, genital herpes type 1, gonorrhea and NGU. You are not at risk for HIV from receiving (or giving) oral sex.

I’ll explain all the risks for everything, but most experts don't think a single act of oral sex warrants testing. If you have a regular partner you're concerned about infecting, you might want to test, but you probably don't need to test unless you get symptoms.

Syphilis isn't that common, and your partner would have had to have a sore in their mouth to transmit it. You wouldn't see symptoms of this for 10-90 days, but the average is 21 days, and you'd get a sore called a chancre. This doesn't cause burning, pain, discharge, etc. You can test for this at 6 weeks. If you get symptoms, but test negative at 6 weeks, test again at 90 days, and get to the doctor as soon as you see symptoms.

If you don't already have herpes type 1 (think oral sores, like cold sores but not canker sores), then you could get genital herpes type 1 from receiving oral sex. This can happen even if the person performing oral doesn't have a sore, but it's more likely if they do. The time from infection to symptoms is usually 2-12 days, but the average is 4 days. You can test for this now, and then again at 4 months to make sure you don't have it. If you test positive now, it's a pre-existing infection that you had before this encounter. About half the adult population has this, and 90% don’t know it. Ask for a type specific IgG blood test.

You'd see symptoms of gonorrhea at about 2-5 days, and this would usually be a discharge, burning, etc. Some people don't get symptoms. You can test for this as early as 3 days, but 5 days is better. You can have a urine test or a swab test.

NGU (nongonococcal urethritis urethritis, sometimes called NSU, for non-specific) is an infection in the urethra that is caused by anything other than gonorrhea . This can be caused by normal mouth bacteria entering the urethra, and the symptoms and testing times are the same as gonorrhea.

Thank you very much . I do have a somewhat significant other . Im going on eight days basically symptom free , other than the ones I create in my own head . The nausea is starting to slow down with each day also. Its amazing how close you look at your penis when you think theres something wring .
Thanks again . If anything comes from this , ill be back
Limit your penis checking to once a day, and you don't need to do microscopic checks - if you have symptoms, a basic look will see it. If you do more, you will find all kinds of things, and probably irritate yourself, which will then freak you out more.

8 days symptoms free is a great sign. I really wouldn't worry at all.
Thank you very much AJ . You are very much correct about checking to much , throw in the cell phone flashlight , youll find all kinds of things down there . I know ive worried about this to much , I had Dionne Warwick tell me last night in a dream I had herpes , Dionne Warwick of all people , oh well.

Thanks for helping calm some nerves and also for a very helpful site.
Oh sweetie, Dionne Warwick? Someday, you will laugh about this, but I am very aware today is not that day.

Listen, all respect to Dionne, but she's not psychic. I'm pretty sure most of the people in that ad she used to do aren't psychic, either. This is your anxiety talking. Nothing else.

Do you even know if you have hsv1 already? Depending on your age, up to about 80% of the population has it. Even if you've never had a cold sore, you can still have it, as the vast majority of people who do never get symptoms.

If you have it already, you can't get it again. You can ask for a type specific IgG blood test, but just get the type 1 test. You don't need the type 2 test. But hear me - you'd only be finding out if you had it before, not if you got it from this. I don't think you have any real reason to worry from this. Experts don't think you need to test after one act of unprotected oral sex. The risk isn't high enough, no matter what Dionne says. ;)
