Potential partner has genital hsv-1, confusion, answers?

Hi. There is so much info online on this, but in many cases it's confusing, not well written, or contradictory.

Ok. A potential partner (female) told me she has genital hsv-1. She has had it about a year, and only has had the one outbreak. She received it from receiving oral sex from her ex when he had an oral cold sore/break out.

I'm getting tested for both 1 & 2, but don't remember having the described cold sores on my face or genitals ever, but it's possible I had an oral cold sore when I was a child and just don't remember.

Questions:
1. Can she pass hsv-1 to me through moth to mouth kissing?

2. Can she pass hsv-1 to me if she performs oral sex on me? --- She said this was not possible, that she can't even get an oral cold sore now. But I thought that it is 'not likely' to transmit to a partner in this way.

3. If I perform oral sex on her, can I transmit hsv-1 orally this way?

Thanks for any advice.

hsv1 genitally tends not to reoccur very often at all. the odds of contracting it at all, whether orally or genitally are very , very low.

if you need help with your test results, just post them here - e.g. hsv 1 igg 4.3 and hsv2 igg .34 or whatever they are.

can you get hsv1 from contact from her mouth? well we only have limited info on this. What few studies we do have show that anywhere from 1/4 - 2/3's of folks who have hsv1 genitally, also have it genitally. Unless she gets an obvious cold sore, no easy ( or cheap ) way to know for sure if she also has hsv1 orally or not. totally up to the 2 of you if you want to only have protected oral sex or not if you test negative for hsv1. it's still low risk in general of contracting hsv1 genitally from oral sex if she does in fact have it orally too and just doesn't know it.

hope that helps!

on 2, curious if this is fairly certain? a few health related sites seem to suggest it's not as common, which leaves it open.

on 3, i meant can i get hsv1 orally if i give her oral sex? my assumption here is that many people have hsv-1 orally in our culture. and if i did, there's nothing that can be transmitted, as i would already have it above the waist.

but if i don't have hsv-1, i could contract it this way. is this correct?

any information if getting hsv-1 as an adult is more complicated that as a child?

thank you.

1. if her hsv1 is only genital, nope.
2. nope. she only shed from the genital area if it`s only genital.
3. you mean if you can catch it that way? if you dont have hsv1, you won`t transmit it.
