Primary Herpes Infection??

hi there
two weekends ago, i had oral sex with my boyfriend. now, for the past two days i've had a few sores in my mouth and some white patches on my tonsils/throat area. My throat is a bit sore, not too bothersome, but definitely red. Now i feel two more appearing on the inside of my lower lip. does this sound like a primary oral herpes outbreak? what are the typical symptoms? i'm kind of freaking out! i thought the sores might just be canker sores and that i might also just have strep, but now that i'm getting more sores, i'm not so sure. also, if this is a primary outbreak, how long should i expect it to last? i am seeing my boyfriend again in a week and want to know whether i shouldn't kiss him, etc. it started on monday, btw.
please let me know!! freaking!

you could've been with him for 20 years and not have gotten hsv1 from him. it's a crap shoot as much as anything.

at this point nothing else really to do since it's a friday night and getting a lesion culture is far too much effort. many viral illnesses that cause symptoms like this too. if you really need the peace of mind you can get a hsv1 igg blood test in 3 months to see what your status is. you also can ask your bf to get the igg test now for hsv1 ( no need to test for hsv2 since he's never had sex before ) to see what his status is if he can't recall ever having had a cold sore before.

ya, they did the quick strep test and it was negative. but they did the more comprehensive test too and put me on antibiotics in the meantime.

and i feel like i would've already gotten it from him if he has hsv1 orally because we've been together for 2 years and kiss all the time. why would i only be getting it now? plus, i had the genital outbreak before we had any sort of interaction down there.

just because he was a virgin doesn't mean he doesn't have hsv1 orally. 1 out of every 3 of us contract it before we even start public school even!!

did they test you for strep?

hi grace thanks for answering me so quickly. i actually just went to the doctor yesterday and they thought it was just a canker sore and strep throat, but then i read online that many doctors mistake primary herpetic stomatitis for canker sores.
i got tested a few months back because i was afraid i had genital herpes, but the tests came back negative. i've never really accepted it though and still fear that i might have it because i once had some sort of outbreak and i know that tests can come back falsely negative.

you need to be seen and get a proper exam and diagnosis done. many things this could be going on.

have you and your bf ever been tested to know what your herpes statuses are?
