Prolonged herpes outbreak wont go away?

I've had genital HSV-1 for around 4 years. My outbreaks are always pretty mild, my last one scabbed over but was only a small spot. The problem is the outbreaks seem to last forever. My first one lasted around a year, with a red-spot and general itchiness. It went away and now I have another one that I've had for around 2 months. Is this normal? I've never been tested but am 95% positive it is HSV-1 because it started happening after having sex with a cold sore around my mouth (my first cold sore and I hadn't developed the antibodies to not get it genitally.) Any ideas one what could be going on? I don't want to transmit it to a partner but am having a hard time remaining celibate!

There is no way in earth a herpes outbreak lasted a year!
If you already have hsv1 orally it's unlikely you have it genitally as well

It does seem unlikely I just can't think of anything else it could be. Pretty sure I caught it orally and then genitally right after and didn't have the antibodies yet to fight it off. Symptoms are very similar to what I've had orally.
I would have any lesions or areas of concern swabbed and pcr tested. Have you ever been tested. Herpes will not be a red spot that itches for a month let alone a year. What wver that is it isn't herpes
