Question on Oral Herpes

I'm a 30yr old female and about 3 years ago, I got a fever blister/cold sore (is there a difference?) on my lower lip....this was the first time I'd ever gotten one. I've had about 4 since that time and recently I had a small acne breakout on my chin (which is not normal for me)...over the past week it spread almost like a rash, but it resembles the cluster of blisters I'd had on my lip. Is it possible that this could be Herpes? It's small leaking blisters and itch like crazy. I'm very embarrased and am having a little anxiety about it. I don't have anything on my lip and haven't had a cold sore for about a year and a half. Does anyone have any advise on what I should do...and any advise on taking Valtrex daily. I know my symptoms are as significant as others, but I'd rather take a daily dose of something to fight this off before I get a sore...and what's on my face :( ???

you need to have this rash looked at. sounds more like impetigo than it does your herpes.

Thank, I did...it's perioral dermititis.

I would still like your input on taking the Valtrex daily for cold sores.

we don't have info on daily suppressive therapy with valtrex and oral herpes :(   will it hurt to take it? no it will not. how often were you getting cold sore recurrences?

My first one was about 3 years ago. I've gotten about 5 maybe 6 to date. Obviously it's embarrassing and if there's something I can take to ease my mind about one popping up...I will.

Also, should I be tested to find out what type I have? I've never had any abnormal test results come back, but I've had these cold sores...it's a little confusing.

usually cold sores are hsv1. if you've never been tested for herpes before though, always a good idea to seek out a type specific test to see what your hsv2 status is too periodically.

have you tried taking antivirals in the cold sore dose at the very first sign of a cold sore about to start to try to ward one off?
