I see the unethical part. But I also read that doctors don’t make you get test cause it’s so normal. Unless you have symptoms. And not even the symptoms of cold sores. Maybe where I’m from, or my community there’s a stigma on it. Not so much of the cold sore, but I think some people are oblivious to what a cold sore actually is.
Herpes is a particularly hard virus to find a vaccine or cure for because it resides in nerve cells, and finding something that can get in the nerve cell and not damage the cell but kill herpes is tricky.
Also, herpes isn't fatal. HIV is. Research should go into HIV before herpes. I've had herpes for almost 20 years now, and I'd much rather research money went into HIV (or cancer, diabetes, etc) than herpes.
A doctor who doesn't tell you that you have hsv1 is unethical, and is treating you like your stupid, weak, a child, etc. That's terrible. You have the right, by law, to know about every single test result, even the ones they don't feel like explaining. You're a grown woman, and they should be treating you as such.
I don't know that there is a stigma around hsv1. Maybe there is, but you can choose not to buy into it. It's a virus that at least half the adults in the US have, whether they know it or not. Take your power back over this. Choose to be educated and not care what others think.
Herpes is just not that big a deal. It can cause problems during pregnancy, but those can be managed.
If you can't let go of this fear, which is disproportionate to the actual infection, then it's time to seek counseling.
I’m sorry more to write. But the doctors told me they don’t tell of HSV-1 especially when the patient doesn’t have symptoms, is because of the emotional stress. And because it’s so super common, they say HSV1 is somewhat normal. But they worth more about HSV-2.
Sometimes I wonder also why don’t they hav something like a PREP for herpes like they do HIV. Seems like it would work. Unless the medicine is just not that strong enough. Well it’s gotta be if it can suppress it, I’ve heard of people numbers going down because of the medicine. Ive been tested before with IGM and IGG. That was long ago, I had IGG after that. I was just told I was negative. But I was more worried about my HSV-2 results. But a couple of doctors told me they don’t even tell people if they have HSV-1. Or unless they are having symptoms. So yes it’s all pretty confusing.
