Your positive came in the low positive range. Fifty percent of those who fall between 1.1 and 3.5 do NOT confirm as positive when tested with a better test. It is very very common for Aldara to cause sores in the genital area, probably 80% of users have some skin abrasions. Please work out a way to get a herpes western blot to confirm your HSV 2 antibody test. It may well not be real. You can either order a test kit directly from the University of Washington and have it drawn by your own doctor or we can order it for you at a local lab in your area through our clinic. We are in Portland, OR. Westover Heights Clinic.

what also would of been nice is if they would of looked at these peoplet tha had conflicting results 6 months later and see if they had any symptoms and make assumptions of what percentage may have new infections and see if conflicting results are likely positives or negatives in reality.
One concern I have in the report. I kind of like stats... so this bothered me. How that translates to 4% overall false positives as stated in the study I have no idea. if a third is in the low range and 44% to 65% are false. How do they report only 4.1% effected.
Thank you for the reference study. I googled and read the report. I attached
the URL for anybody to read in similar circumstance as me .http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1276011
Highlights of my reading
1) From the study about a third of positives are in the low positive range 1.1 to 3.5.
2) Actually 65% of the low positives could not be confirmed by both BioKit and WB and only 44% were confirmed by one of two.
3) If you are infected with Herpes 1 already, your false positive potential likely increases significantly.
4)If you are of African descent the HerpesSelect results maybe false due to unknown reasons. (I am not, but wished I was at that moment).
Considering 1 in 4 Americans are infected with Herpes2 ( I READ That Singles older then 40 the rate is more like 1 in 2 and higher for women an astounding 70%) the chances I have it or no higher then the general population my age who are single.
I will get both confirming tests done to enable me to help me figure it all out. Kind of scared to at this point, since a positive result will be emotionally draining. But I certainly have a better outlook then I had a few days ago.
can you tell me what percentage of herpes select scores wind up in the 1.1 to 3.5 range?
that isn't what you wrote in the article. Please read it.
We are talking a bit of apples and oranges here. The sensitivity of the ELISA for HSV 2 is 97%, which means that is MISSES three cases out of 100.
The low positive thing is different. Of the people that test positive in the range from 1.1 to 3.5, half do not confirm with western blot (which makes them likely false positives). The reference is in a article by Dr. Rhoda Morrow comparing western blot, ELISA, and Biokit.
Terri
thanks. . can you place a link?
Terri:
I am confused. I just read an article online titled Herpes Testing For Health Care Providers" written by YOU that states the specificity of the Herpeselect test to be 97%. you go on to say that translates into 3 out of 100 false positives and effecting the 1-3.5 score more often then higher scores. So how do you now figure it to be 50% of that sub group?
Plwase pass me the phone number to begin the process.
You need to contact the clinic and set up a phone appointment to become an official patient of the clinic.
Terri
Ok. Let's do it. What do I need to do to start the process to work through your clinic for Western blot test?
Unprotected with both girlfriends and condom was used with one night stands.
Last facts. I am straight male. Tested in September for standard std's (herpes not one of them) and all negative results. Last test for herpes was back in late 2009 and was negative for herpes 2 and positive for hsv 1 ( infrequent cold sores since childhood) . Monogamous relationship for 3 plus years since test. Then had a breakup whereby had two one night stands and since been with a new girlfriend for 4 months.
Your offices are in nyc? How do I make an appointment to consult with you in your offices?
Last question what are the statistical odds of passing herpes 2 orally to a non infected partner without using a condom? Is it highly unusual or somewhat dangerous or outright dangerous?
Also please next steps I should take. I was put on 4 day 2 supply of Acklivor (misspelled I know ). Should I begin daily therapy now if I am sexually active?
