Scared and need help

I am married and we have been with only eachother for the past 3 and a half years.  We have an active sex life and a couple of times, right after sex, I have gotten a sore spot on my penis shaft that healed with neosporn.
I spent the last year in Afghanistan and upon my arrival home we stayed in a hotel and had sex (non-stop for days).  I got very sore and had a bunch of red sores (never blisters) (only on the shaft).  We continued to have sex but the sores hurt during sex.
Over the past 3 months it seems that the sores come back right after aggressive sex and don't go away unless we abstain from sex.  (she has had no symptons of any kind).
This last time they finnaly went away and then came back the very next time we had sex.  This last time there are more soars than before.  They are different shapes some up to a helf in long.
I'm sorry for the long question, but I'm just scared and am not sure if this sounds like herpes.
Does anyone have any ideas

At this point you need to follow up on this with your provider. it sounds like you've never had herpes testing done so definitely get a type specific herpes igg blood test done to see what your status is.

I will elaborate on the sores just in case.

They are red from the beggining and look like the skin has been rubbed raw.  Never any bumps, just a very smooth rubbed raw look.  With neosporn and no sexual activity, they scab over.
