Shaving Irritation and herpes for women

I recently found out I had HSV2 about 9 months ago, but I realize that I've really had it for a couple of years, mistaking it for what I thought were giant sore shaving bumps, but looking back, I realize they were outbreaks and I should have seen a doctor the first time.

Anywho...the reason I always thought they were shaving bumps is because I'd rarely get them until I shaved...like a bare shave, which I rarely do because it gets really irritable down there afterwards.  Now that I know I have it...I never really thought about shaving triggering it until I realized every time I do a close shave, I get an outbreak a few days later as the hair begins to grow back and becomes very irritated.

Like I went for a couple of months, no sign of outbreak. Shaved to go to the beach, two days later...outbreak.  Same thing happened to me recently; months and no sign of outbreak, shaved close, bam!  I did one time use scissors instead of a razor and didn't get an outbreak, but this last time I went back to the razor (kinda like a test) and sure enough, 2 days later...outbreak.

Is this only me that shaving down there or very close trims causes outbreaks?

Ive linked shaving with outbreaks too. My first outbreak I thought was just a really bad ingrown hair, I wouldn't even know I had herpes, but it hurt bad enough to get it checked out. I avoided shaving for years, recently I got on daily suppressive therapy and tried shaving again, it is less reactive, but I had my only outbreak in the three months since I started the pills shortly after (also a huge amount of stress and my period around the same time) so Im just going to be bushy lol. Shaving my bikini line doesnt seem to bother me, but anything on the more sensitive bits does.

ha thought I was the only one!! Yes, I just noticed the same thing here. Had a period of back to back outbreaks, went on preventive and stopped anything that would irritate it like shaving and did not experience any outbreaks for almost 6 months. Brazilian shaved 2 days ago and boom, outbreak on my chin rest (equivalent to gooch on men)!
Now everything makes sense.. so trimmer it is from now on!
Also, I just read how right before your mensies the PH in your cervix changes (probably from basic to acidic) to cultivate life (baby), and I noticed that sometimes my period makes me feel acidic or shed. From the Herpes Protocol (e-book) I learned that herpes like all Viruses strives in an acidic environment. So maybe thats why mensies sometimes trigger outbreaks. I would ask my doctor but they don't know anything else besides prescribing meds now a days; So I am going to experimnet with going on an alkaline (argentine, mold & grain free) diet and bumping up my Vitamin C, Zinc, and L-Lysine during my PMS or right before it (based on a 28 day cycle rhythm). Will keep you posted if I notice improvement!

Alkaline diet is a great idea! I think I will try that. Thank you.

What I do when I get a sore... and it's usually the same 1 sore in the same spot, after shaving, and close to the time or during my period... I use WitchHazel! And dont wesr panties. Let oxygen get to it ans dry it out.

For those who dont know where to buy it, you can find it at all natural food stores, or online. Get the ALCOHOL FREE kind, unless you want the little burn on your sore.
Otherwise, the WitchHazel dries out the area and abstracts the acidic moisture along with the oxygen. The sooner you dry it out and it scabs, the sooner you can get back to the naughty time.

It does flare when I shave but only near period. I shave a lot, regardless, cause it toughens the skin up. I get a flare, maybe, 3 times a year.

I am working on an all natural concoction for this. Witchhazel + Dandelion + lavender + a few others, to be determined. Each have healing properties and skin aid.  It's a work in progress but once I figure out a working herbal remedy, I will most certainly share it!

Hi guys I've also noticed the same thing! I was diagnosed twice to be sure (so I've definitely got hsv2). I'm on suppressive therapy and have been for quite a while and every time I am due for my monthlies, I get an outbreak. I shave all the time as I hate hair but it only really seems to come out when I'm due/on my periods... I went to the doctor and showed her my bumps as I was worried that I was still getting herpes whilst on suppressive therapy and she said that itas shaving bumps...
I don't believe her though. I am extremely suspicious of doctors and believe they tell you things that you want to hear sometimes

I was barely diagnosed with hsv2 and the same thing for me also it is actually how i found out i had it. I use the gillete razor it gives a close trim and alot easier and safer to use than scissors.

yup me too sure enough every time I shave down there 2 days later BAM an outbreak. tested this many times and it definitely triggers an outbreak. caveman style it is. scissors does not cause it though. just wanted you to know you're not crazy or alone and no 1 has the answer they just think we're crazy.

Have you tested positive for HSV2 ?  Can I ask where do the sores appear?  I think I am experiencing the same thing.  Does it look like ingrown hairs?  Are they clear bumbs?  Around the vagina and labia, on?  On the public area below your belly button?  Thank you

Shaving can lead to an outbreak because you are irritating the skin.  Though not evening you have that may be like an outbreak is an outbreak.  Something we do commonly say.  It wouldn't hurt to be seen and have it checked out.  You may want to talk to a dermatolgoist about things that can be done to help the sensitive skin in that area when shaving.

I had a culture test...

And I know for sure it's an outbreak.  Blisters, swelling, soreness in the groin...

Always happens after a close shave. :(  I mean maybe it's a coincidence...but idk

The question I have is how were you diagnoised as HSV-2?  Was it via culture or blood test?

Shaving does irritate the skin and while it may lead to an outbreak doesn't mean what you have is always an outbreak.

Hi, I was diag G H by culture I didn't ask if was 1 or 2 didn't know you could get both there at the time , any how you say its not an outbreak (I'd tend to agree) what is it considered and does this mean it is normal to get random sores if I shave and should I ask for a suppressant to avoid this? I've also considered laser knowing it may risk outbreaks , but least that ends after 6-8 sessions :)
