Spot on Penis Head

So, about a week ago, I noticed one red spot on the head of my penis. It is oval, about the size of a pea. It started as just a red spot, then the skin on top got shinier almost like a blister. However, it never filled with fluid and never broke. It does not protrude at all. If anything, it kind of dips in the slightest amount. Almost like an ulcer, but as I said the skin never broke. No bumps or dotting, just one spot. Also, it never hurt, tingled, or itched. If I didn't see it, I would have never noticed it was there. Now, a week later, the redness is fading, but the skin is still a little shinier than that around it.

A week before I noticed the spot, I had unprotected sex with a new partner in a very stupid and alcohol induced moment. I would not be surprised if I caught something, as it was my first sexual encounter with someone after a recently ended long term relationship.

Now, some history about me... Almost three years ago, while I was visiting Los Angeles, I had some bumps appear on the head and shaft of my penis. They started as similar spots if I remember correctly, then formed into small white bumps. An emergency room doctor gave me a very quick examination and diagnosed them as genital warts. The doctor tested my blood for everything else, all of which came up negative, except Herpes 1 (for my entire childhood, I had a yearly cold sore on my right ear, though it has not returned for years). I got a topical ointment, which burned the "warts" off and then some. When I got back home, I went to my primary doctor for a follow-up, and he said that, after a much more thorough examination, there was no sign that there were ever warts at all. So either the ointment worked REALLY well or I had gone through that pain for nothing. No way of telling whether or not I actually had HPV-related warts.

I would love to know if this rings any bells. Does it sound like Herpes? Could it be my own Herpes 1 for some reason aggravated? Could it be a wart rearing its ugly head again 3 years later? Or is it more likely to be something new? Any insight would be greatly appreciate.

Id stick with what doc advised. If he thought fungal he would have advise it. It was just something i suggested from your post as  men get it from a change in the skins pH.

Thank you!

I just got back from an STD clinic and got an examination from a doctor. While he's testing my blood for syphilis, he says it looks more like eczema or psoriasis. I had what I thought to be an unrelated rash on the back of my right knee, which the doctor said is probably the same problem. The "shininess" i talked about was the scaly, dry quality he thought definitely pointed to psoriasis. He also said it was not weird for the spot on my penis to not itch while the rash on my knee itched like hell!

The doctor told me to try a Hydrocortisone cream twice daily for 7-10 days, and if there's no change or it gets worse, I should see a dermatologist.

Would you suggest also trying an anti-fungal cream, or would that mess with the Hydrocortisone? And yes, I will be getting an updated Herpes test.

Hi, herpes sores on the penis head is very rare as most often would be on the shaft from intercourse. What your describing appears fungal related. Since your sexually active, you might want to update your herpes status with another igG type specific test.
