Test Results

I got my IGG test results back...

HSV1   .22
HSV2   .37

According to the paperwork I am negative since I am below .90
The doctor just told me not to worry about this but maybe I am being paranoid but I am still concerned.

I did take famciclovir for 10 days... it didn't seem to do much.  If this was herpes is 10 days of famciclovir enough to clear an initial infection?

I still have some itching on my leg but no spots there and though the spots have disappeared as best as I can tell.  It is still a little tender down there.

sorry I confused you with my typo :(  It should've read that if this is herpes, it's a newly acquired infection. sometimes my mind just tells my finger to type things it's used to typing.

At this point, too late for the lesion culture.  if a full week after finishing the famvir you still have a rash or it gets worse, return to be seen. Otherwise all you can do is repeat the blood test in 3 months to see what your hsv igg is at that time. new symptoms before that time, be seen for a lesion culture and typing.

once again sorry for the confusion with my typo.

While grace is working her poor fingers to the bones I will try to give you some insight and answers.

I read over your other post too.  I don't know how I missed it.  I guess I was busy that day or something.  I try to respond to posts too and help grace out when I can.  But Grace is awesome and the best one to steer your correctly.  I wouldn't say this about most people I know on the internet but with grace I would trust with my health any day of the week.

I can't read your results.  I prefer to let someone who has some training in that area (which grace does) do the reading and you will know you are getting the right answer.

You don't say how long between the enounter and the test took place.  I am guessing a week but I am pretty tired so I may have missed it.  If that is the case the good point is now you have that baseline as far as what you are positive/negative for (the numbers don't mean much at a negative level).  1 week isn't enough time.  The best timeframe to get your Type Specific IgG test (which you did) is 12-16 weeks.  3-4 months after possible expsoure to get accurate results.

I know what you mean about the doctors not looking well.  I would see your family doctor like grace said if the bumps reappear within 24-48 hours.  If you can't be seen by your local STD clinic.  You can call your city health department and ask them if they will swap them and send for a culture.  Your city health department may cut you a break on the cost of testing too if you are unemployed ( I looked over your jounral posting briefly).  If they can't you can see if you have a planned parenthood nearby they maybe able to help you out too.

Your doctor did kind of have a point on the culture tests though.  They can sometimes be wrong for various reasons.  However, the best test to do would be a PCR test (not sure if you have health insurance but if you do it may not be covered) it can be costly but far more accurate then the culture test.  However, he shouldn't of said no IMO.

As for your rash you can have a fungal infection.  Us guys get them sometimes.  Heck I am battling one right now.  However, you really need to see a doctor about it to get them to look at it.

I don't think the flu causes the bumps or the cuts or anything of the sort.  Mainly coughing, sore troat, etc.  There is a journal entry I believe on Grace for the flu symtpoms stuff.  See your provider on the rash.  If your doctor can't tell you what it is or gather a guess a visit to your dermatologist is the next step.

It was probably best that my other posts didn't get answered... what you can see there is a guy freaking out and not sure what is going on.  Emotionally the toll is worse than any actual symptoms.

Am I reading this right... the test results say that I have not recently contracted Herpes???

I am in my 40's, monogamous strait guy who never had any symptoms like this ever before.

Herpes was my worry because I had recently had sex with a long term girlfriend and this thing popped up a week or so later.  I had not been sexually active with her or anyone for over 5 months and never had symptoms like this.

This girlfriend said she would get tested but she has been dragging her feet to set up the appointment (much to my dismay).  She has one set for Monday afternoon so I should get the results by the end of next week.

If you think that I did not recently contract Herpies (within the last week or so... then any ideas what could cause this rash? I know this may not be your expertise but any advice on simular things to get tested for?

It sure looks like the photos of herpes but the doctor I saw was very non committal when he examined me and just told me I was negative when the results came back.

The only thing else I can think of is that this woman picked up a nasty flu like bug and that she may have been just starting to come down with that at the time.  Is is possiable that a "flu type bug" could cause these symptoms?

At the time I did have a small cut down there and although we used a condom and always did... maybe something from her got into that cut?

sorry your other posts didn't get answered. when that happens, bump them back up to the top to be seen as we recommend in our read before posting post. from this point forward, just keep any replies in this post to keep it simple.

Your blood test was done far too early to be of any help other than you know if this is herpes, it isn't a newly acquired infection.  At this point you can wait and repeat it in 3 months or if you should get a return of symptoms before then, be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing.

did you talk to your partner to see if she had had any herpes igg blood testing done recently herself?

A newly acquired infection takes the longest to run its course even with treatment. If your lesions that you still have haven't changed at all in appearance, return to your provider for a more thorough work up. way too late for a lesion culture though if they suspect herpes.
