Test Results

I have a doubt

I just got my blood test results and I dont clearly understand them. Could someone help

The results were

HSV II Type Specific IgG OD Ratio 3.04
HSV I Type Specific IgG OD Ratio 1.73

What does this mean, do I have Herpes?

Thanks for the help in advance

I removed your other post since it was a duplicate of this one.

your hsv2 igg is a low positive and needs further confirmatory testing to see if it's a true positive or not.

how long prior to this had you last had sex? do you have a regular partner? what led to you getting tested in the first place?

you can get the WB through any quest lab. since it's not fda approved, getting it in PA often means calling the U of washington lab yourself, seeing if they can arrange for it to be drawn from your local quest lab or they can send you the kit so you can have your provider send you to your local lab to have it drawn and sent out.

Now I'm really confused. Down here were I live I'm still looking for a lab that makes the WB test and still haven't found it. The blood test were repeated, the second time I did the IgG the value drop to 2.81 and the IgM result was <.80. I'm so confused with this, and still looking for a lab for the WB test. What should I think.

The IgM is worthless and in fact the 2010 CDC herpes testing guidelines state that. As well, taking the IgG over and over is a waste of time and money. You know you need confirmatory testing with the Western Blot at this point. Until then, you really can't discern your herpes status.

certainly discuss things with him. Let him know that you were being sexually responsible and following up with testing from your prior partner before becoming sexually involved with him and you have a low positive herpes test result that you have to take time to follow up on properly to know if it's a true positive or not.

Thanks Grace, Mistake

What I'm also worried about is in regards to my boyfriend. I dont know how to approach this issue and also if I should wait until the new labs come out

it's been long enough since your last partner that you can seek out confirmatory testing. give your provider a call and see if they can arrange for the herpes WB for you.

genital herpes is transmitted through naked and intimate contact with others, we never have that sort of contact with our children so it's not an issue if indeed you are really infected with hsv2.

You should look into the confirmatory testing as grace suggested.  The Western Blot would be the most helpful to get.  It is also the gold standard in HSV testing.

As long as your children (and they shouldn't) avoid your genital area you will be fine.  Avoid sharing towels and wash clothes as well.  The virus does need skin to skin contact to transmit but those things will provide an area when moist to provide an area the virus may survive on.

Have you had previous testing for HSV using a type specific test like this?
