Transmitting HSV-1

Like many people, I've had HSV-1 since I was a child.  My girlfriend also has HSV-1.  My question is this - if I  have sexual contact with her, let's say kissing, while she has an active cold sore would that necessarily cause mine to flare up?  Or would there really be no effect on me since I already have HSV-1?  Thanks!

since you both have hsv1 orally, it's not an issue for kissing. you won't ping pong the virus back and forth nor will you cause "worse" cold sores in the other.

always err on the side of caution and never perform oral when you have an active cold sore. even though you both are unlikely to contract hsv1 genitally, best to err on the side of caution as well as what is normal mouth bacteria in the genital area, isn't always so normal when introduced into an open cold sore on the mouth.
