Waiting for results and worried out of my mind.

Before my question I will post a brief background:

On Jan 31st I had unprotected sex with my best friend. She received oral sex from me for no more than 3 minutes, and actual vaginal intercourse lasted for approx 15min. I am a sexually active heterosexual male (age 25) who has been tested twice before my encounter with my friend (all tests negative for all STDs). I was tested 3 months after my last sexual encounter and since that test, and before my friend, have only been with one other person, which was a long term relationship with a woman who was a virgin + STD tested. So I am confident that I have never been exposed to anything until now.

My friend is a heterosexual female (age 25) who has never been tested and has had 3 sex partners before me (all long term boyfriends, no symptoms). She has had unprotected sex time to time with all of them. Approximately 3 days after we had sex, I noticed a tingling feeling which turned into an itching feeling at the tip of my penis, accompanied by slight discomfort urinating. This turned into a kind of cold burning feeling in my urethra and bottom of testicles. I felt a burning feeling when urinating, and a cold burning feeling at the base of my shaft when ejaculating during masturbation. Of course, I informed my friend and we both went to get an STD test. We went to a free testing clinic however so we got tested for everything except Herpes. Sometime a day or two before the test (which was over 2 weeks ago) I experienced a slight pain/swelling feeling in my groin area and lower abdomen pain. At this point all symptoms were the strongest but they didn't seem to all be present at once.. On a side note, there was no discharge or dripping at any kind.

Finally when I went to get tested the doctor that examined me (she also heard the whole history) diagnosed me with Urethritis and gave me 500mg of Azithromycin (2 pills) for a one time treatment. She said she was pretty sure that I had contracted Chlamydia from my friend. The pills, I was told, take 7 days to work. However more than a a week after taking the pills I was still having symptoms. Finally a few days ago they slowly started to go away, but since 5 days ago I have been having the feeling that my rectum is not empty. Even after having a bowel movement. I also felt generally run down, even after sleeping. About a week ago, when examining myself, I felt what seemed to be a bump or pimple on my anus. I tried to look in the mirror but it is hard to see. However I can feel something there.. It is not painful to touch at all and feels soft and fleshy almost.

Honestly, I am scared to death that this could be Herpes. I have had no blisters or sores or rashes at all, but could this bump be Herpes? Does this look more like Chlamydia to you? This was a free clinic we went to so even though we took the test more than 2 weeks ago we are still waiting for our results, and this is stressing us out so much. Is it possible that I simply do have a urethritis causing bacteria and the 500mg of Azithromycin was not strong enough? We are trying to find a place to get tested for Herpes, but neither of us have insurance or a private physician and are struggling financially.. Please give me your advice on what you think could be going on.

Sincerely,

One scared man.

An idea you may want to look into.  I am not sure if you can find a free clinic to look into.  Some City health departments will do an STD test including herpes.  Check with them.  If not you may want to look into a site such as tstd.org.  You can get them to do a Herpes only test for 98.00.

I agree with grace you need to be looked at there.  Contacting the clinic that did your STD test may have a nurse or a trained professional who can look at your anus and tell you.  I know the City health department here had a nurse who looked me over to investigate me from head to toe.  She left no place unchecked (including my butt).

I know that going into and having them check may make you uneasy.  The wrench to this is that you are testing for Herpes really soon.  It is suggested that you wait 3-4 months after your possible exposure.  Your friend if her last sexual encounter was more then 3 months ago can be checked and you can be seen if she has HSV.

Bumps and things like that really aren't easy for anyone but a trained professional to be the judge if it could or could not be. Contact the clinic too on your results.  They should be able to give you a timeframe of when to call them for results.

At this point the best you can do is make an appointment to be seen this week and have this looked at. Many things it can be and odds are it isn't herpes going on.

You were only treated for chlamydia. If chlamydia wasn't the cause of your symptoms, the medication you were given probably wasn't the best choice. If you continue to have urinary symptoms, return to your provider for additional follow up. Sometimes they get chlamydia on the brain at the clinics and forget there are other infections out there. with both of you already have covered your bases with std testing, odds are this wasn't chlamydia either to be honest.
