Okay thanks so much. So if I never develop another sore for them to swab, I guess I'll just forget about the whole thing, as maybe this wasn't even ever a herpes outbreak, and I've had it my "entire life". In that case, I can't really tell partners I have genital herpes because I have no idea if I do or not? Thanks.
continued... i can say they dont appear herpes related but that does not confirm anything. youve been sexually active on a dating sites which increases your exposure risk.
The only way to ease your concerns about genital hsv is a swab of a sore taken within 48 hours after appearing. even if you have a blood test it wont detail where you have it. Its the only way. And at that not a culture but a PCR test offered at lab corp or quest diagnotics.
@Life360
Thanks so much for the input you've added, as I'm sure you're helping others too who have similar questions and making a big impact on peoples' lives. Amazing job.
These weren't "sores" per say, but looked like whitehead pimples, just a little larger in size. I wouldn't see clusters of them though. More like there would be one, and an inch away there was another one. Sometimes only one at a time, and they'd be there and gone overnight or within 2 days, as if they had popped in the shower or something like a regular pimple.
Does this sound like herpes or something else like bacterial or fungal? I've never heard of something like this before with these big whitehead pimples.
I just want to get this resolved and I'm actually trapped, because if I DO have hsv1, and had it since I was a child orally, then my second blood test will come up positive, but if I never have another rash/outbreak in my genital area, I have no way of testing if it's genital Hsv1, or oral hsv1. This worries me because I don't want to have sex with someone and spread it from genital to genital.
Thanks.
Herpes sores are not puss filled and dont jump all over the place.
Okay, so you're in fact saying that it's not the trait of a herpes outbreak to do what I have described? In other words, the fact that I first had a sting in my urethra, then a week later developed a single sore surrounded by a rash on my upper right groin, THEN, before this one even got a chance to fully heal, developed another pimple that grew bigger into a sore on the parallel left side about a week later, THEN BEFORE THAT ONE even got a chance to heal, started to develop this different looking rash underneath my scrotum....in essence, is not typical of herpes outbreak?
In essence, there are 4 different spots which the "culprit" whatever it is, caused a problem. 1 in the urethra, and the 3 different rashes in my genital area, but not directly on the penis, ever.
I do want to mention that last week there was a yellow/whitish filled pimple that looked similar in size to the spread out pimples that I saw in the infected area under the scrotum (these were never clustered, just 1 or 2 spread out and would appear overnight pus filled), and this week there is one above my left knee cap. Weird? thoguhts?
Sores appear at the point of contact with the first exposure. If this was vaginal or oral sex from her it would be on your penis shaft not your leg. It would be on your leg if you already was diagnosed with herpes and had outbreaks before. Also it doesnot often jump from one side to the other but prefers to outbreak in the same spot as prefers the path of least resistance.
Test again in 2 months or have a new sore swabbed to confirm you hsv status.
If you had a herpes sore in your urethra it would be very painful not just stinging.
@Life360
I should also mention that, I fear that if this was not actually a herpes outbreak, then there wont be another sore that can open up and allow for a swab test. Then I'll be left with the idea that I have hsv1 somehow based on the blood test, and I'll kind of be living based on assumptions
@Life360
Okay well this whole thing started with the stinging in the urethra. That was the first thing I noticed, that's when I got tested for chlamydia and ghonnerea. About 2 weeks later the first sore on my upper right thigh formed (the one that the doctor looked at and immediately said looked like a fungal infection). It looked exactly like this (non explicit picture I found on google):

Except it had a sore in the middle. That was the first rash, and then the second one was on the left thigh above the pubic hair area it came about a week later, but it was just the sore, not surrounded by a rash.
The stinging in my urethra isn't VERY painful at all, and hasn't been this whole time. It's obviously some pain, but not the kind that hurts. More of an annoying kind. Something that is definitely more mild than strong.
It doesn't matter about the last exposure and the test time, because the symptoms started happening BEFORE the most recent exposure to sexual contact.
The symptoms started almost 3 months ago now (probably like 2 months and 2 weeks, maybe more), (starting with the off and on stinging in urethra), and I got the blood test about a week and a half ago, with a value of 1.22.
Thanks
Herpes sores can appear as most anything but most often are a single blister with clear liquid that breaks open and forms a cluster in the immediate area. In the genital area they can be quite painful and take about 2 weeks to heal after scabbing over. When we speak of rashes with herpes, this is most associated with shingles and again most often only flare up once in a lifetime. When you mention "this long" outbreaks can occur every month or so but most often just a few times a year with those with established herpes. Those with newly acquired herpes can have more recurrent outbreaks.
What was time test time period between your last exposure and the blood test. Conclusive results would be at the 3 month mark.
To eliminate herpes from this concern, retest at the 3 month mark or even better have a newly developed rash swabbed with in 48 hours after appearing.
I think you can rule out a herpes sore in your urethra as would be very painful esp when toxic urine comes in contact with it.
@Life360
Thanks for the reply. The doctor said there was no point in swabbing because the skin was raw and a lot of infectious items would have probably popped up.
Another question. Is it normal for the symptoms to be lasting this long (going on 3 months now), namely the overlapping rashes in different areas AND especially the stinging sensation in the urethra?
Thanks
Hi, it would have been best to have the sores swabbed. The blood test only shows positive for hsv1 which could be oral and you contracted it at a young age BUT with a low positive its either a sign of a false positive in need of retesting or a recently acquired infection.
By the way, the rash that developed under my scrotum has slowly been healing. I was only told to use the creams for 7 days, so I stopped about 7 days ago. The skin has been peeled from under the scrotum so of course it will take a while to heal, and is still very slightly raw and discolored redish compared the regular skin, but is not painful
