Will I develop hsv 2?

Me and my girlfriend just had routine std testing and we both came back positive for hsv 1 , she remembers having cold sores as a kid I don’t remember having any at all , my question is can we pass this on two one another to the genital area and end up having genital herpes ?

If you both tested positive, it means you both have antibodies, which protect you from getting it again in a different location on your body. I might still avoid receiving oral sex if the giver has an actual outbreak, because that's when the viral load is super high, but other than that, you all should be fine.

If something happens and your relationship doesn't work out, and you end up with someone who doesn't have hsv1, you could transmit it to a negative partner much easier, but since you both have it, I wouldn't spend any time worrying about it at all. :)
