Worried

So me and a buddy of mine went to iHop, and he thought it would be funny to start a spitball war. He got me in the eye, like I'm pretty sure directly in the eye. I went to the bathroom rinsed it off with water, hopefully got his saliva out. He claims to not have cold sores or herpes (which I don't believe but it could be true). Is it possible for me to get an infection or even herpes in the eye from that?
