all sex partners negative, I am positive?

Hi, two weeks ago during my annual obgyn visit I got tested for STDs through a blood test. it came back positive for herpes 1 and herpes 2.I was shocked since I never experienced any symptoms. My doctor said I had very low levels of antibodies and since I was not experiencing any sores, I did not need medication at this point. She did say I definetly had genital herpes and that I could give it to anyone I had unprotected sex with. The same day I contacted all three men I ever had sex with. All three got tested again, by blood, urine and the qtip swab and all three came back negative. I have been extremly stressed and confused as to how I could have been infected. I do not know what test was used. Should I get another test in a different clinic to be sure? Thank you for your time.

through quest labs it's test #34534.  it's a send out for every quest lab so if your local quest lab is having a hard time finding it to order for you, ask them to look it up under the send out  labs.

stop back and let us know what your confirmatory results were :)

Thank you Grace,      the last time I had sex was in may, so just over four months ago. But my exboyfriend has been tested twice since then and was negative both times. I will seek a different provider and request the test you mentioned. Thank you for your advice.

your hsv2 igg is a very low positive and needs confirmed with further testing. you need to wait  4 months after the last time you had sex and seek out a herpes WB blood test to confirm your status.

Your provider needs to update their herpes testing info too :(  You don't treat based on the numeric results , it's not "better" if your igg is lower, you are just as contagious as someone who had a hsv2 igg of 7.9 or something. Also they need to be aware of the false positive issues too.

no, coxsackie virus and chicken pox don't have any baring on your test results.

As I said, I do not know the name of the test. I do know it differentiated between herpes 1 and 2 and my level for herpes 2 was 2.4 which I understand is high and should not be a false positive. However, all three partners have repeatedly tested negative, i have no symptoms and very low antibodies. I am still hoping it could have been a false positive. In addition, I work with children and have been exposed to hand foot and mouth disease and chicken pox within the last four weeks, if that makes any difference.
