blood test

I have concerns about a contact that I had with a woman February 21. She performed oral sex on me. There was no intercourse, and our gentiles never came directly in contact. She kept her underwear on the entire time. Several (3) weeks later I was having sex with someone else and I noticed after words that there was a redness underneath the head of my penis. It seemed as if I had a burn of some kind from rough sex. It was on both sides of my penis just under the head. We had sex (unprotected) several time that week. March 11th – 14th. I found it strange that I have not had these kinds of red burn marks in the past.  My concern was immediately following this event, as I thought that this was a foolish thing to do. The red marks healed as if it was a rug burn. Small scabs and when away the following week. I know both of these people for a long time and they say they have not been exposed. (Whatever that is worth) I started researching symptoms of STD and watched for signs of exposure. I started to notice the little white dot on my penis that you examined. Concerned it may be a wart or something.

Three weeks later the woman that I had intercourse with on March 11th- 14th became ill with the flu. I found this unusual as she has very rarely, if ever sick. 37 years old. My STD research revealed that this could be the first sign of herpes. That’s when I started think back to the oral sex episode. I started to really get concerned and started to get tested

This is a rundown of the test that I had
April 11th – full STD screening from a company called Advancedtestingcenter.com
HIV Antibody, HIV PCR, Herpes IGM, Herpes Select IGG 1 and 2
Gonorrhea – urine, Chlamydia - urine
All results were negative – except for HSV 1 was positive - that I new I had for years

On April 24th – I took a PCR test for herpes. Requestatest.com
I tested negative for both – I found that to be strange, considering that I knew I have HSV1 –

April 25th- syphilis, HIV and HSV 2 negative (as you may remember) Biokit

This week I had an erection and noticed a lump under the skin on the left side. It was soft and about the size of a half of a pea. When I rubbed it, it seemed to go away as if it was a blood clot. I remember having the same thing prior to or around March 10th, but it went away just as it did this time.

Here are my questions

1 – Does the HSV biokit detect HSV when there is not an outbreak?  How accurate are the tests from time of exposure. The information I have is that it is 94% after 1 month. I also am being told that HSV is not detectable without a outbreak and there is a 12 week window. Can you clear this up for me? what is the likely hood of turning possitive after 9 weeks of blood test that are negative?

2 – Does the lump sound like it could be Lymphocele? I ask because this has been noted to be caused by an STD of some kind. Possibly herpes. What advise can you give me on this issue?

3 – There is information that says you have to wait three to six months for HIV. There are HIV hotlines that say 6 weeks.

Thank you in advance for your understanding. I appreciate any insight as you may tell form my email, it is of high concern to me.

Your pcr test for herpes you had done. Did you do a pcr swab of your active lesions?  If it was a blood test - are you sure it was a pcr blood test because if it was it was a waste of time.  Look into that more and post here what you find out.

As for worrying that the one gal got sick who never gets sick - well heaven forbid it was way past her time to catch a little something isn't it?  Everyone gets sick - just some folks have better luck at avoiding obvious symptoms than others do.

My other concern is - are you just ordering up testing online without ever seeing a practioner? If so then it's time to turn off the computer and go be seen in person and have these things checked out.  I'm siding with waring here - you are worrying way too much about this all from the sounds of things. Also if you are going to worry then be sure to always wear a condom - even when receiving oral sex.  Don't be stupid about it!

i saw the doctor a doctor on the april 14th and told him about the oral sex thing. i didn't discuss the intercourse at the time, because i was concerned about the symptoms that can that day and i thought that there was no way that could happen that fast. also, i never discussed the lump on my penis because i forgot about it unit week when i it happended again.

i followed up with another doctor on april 25th, again just to ducuss the first episode. i have reach out to him again to ask for clarity, but he is out of the country until the 7th.

my fear is that i may have passed this along to someone else.

i agree with you on not being stupid about safe sex, i know better.

the pcr test was a blood test, so i guess i through $379 away

i missed this response, disregard message to you.

several typos

i forgot about the first lump i had on or around march 10th, i had another lump THIS week. I saw the doctor on the 25th. prior to explaining the lump concern.

i only dicussed the oral sex episode with the doctor, because the first time i had a propblem was the day i had intercoure with the other woman. i was more focused on being sure i did not give anything to her based on her becoming ill shortly thereafter.

what is making me nervous is that i feel like i am waiting for another breakout of some kind now. it is making me a little nuts,

any thought on the accuracy of the other test that i took..?

Damn shame you wasted that money on the pcr blood test. Herpes is not a blood borne virus so using pcr on blood is a total waste of money.  Pcr is best for herpes as a swab on active lesions .

Lumps aren't likely to be herpes.  I"m assuming you've already googled lymphocele since you mentioned it.  It's very easy to tell the difference between them.  They aren't caused by std's and are completely normal.

What other test you took?  The herpes igg and igm you took on 4/11?

I think you are wasting a heck of a lot of time with a lot of testing for a very low risk encounter and a fairly low risk encounter.  Your money would be better spent on buying condoms instead of all this repeat testing.

Should you get a repeat of your genital rash - see your provider within 24-48 hours of its appearance for exam.

hello all

just an update on my progress. i couldn't wait again last week and took another test - Biokit HSV2 - negative - 10 weeks and 4 day after possible first exposure

i told the doctor about the bump on my penis and how it just went away after i rubbed it. He said not to worry about it.

i also heard back from the doctor i saw at 9 weeks - he said that i tested negative and not to be concerned about it.

both Doctors felt that moast people will have an accurate result at 6 weeks.

But, as you probably figured out, i need to have all the answers

i looked up lymphocele and found some connection to Herpes on a few sites. More confused than ever.

today is the 12 week point and i just took another test for Herpes 2 igg from labcorp test number 163147. results will be in  Monday. (long weekend) - Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Type 2-Specific Antibodies, IgG

my question is  - is this a good test?

Once again - you are obsessing over something that isn't worth obsessing over. It's time to move on past this - not continue to retest over and over again.

I don't see a herpes PCR test offered by requestatest.com?  Are you talking about the lgM test for $89 dollars?

requestatest offered the PCR test - DO NOT TAKE THAT TEST. as gracefromHHP said it is a waste of money

they do offer the HSV type 1 and 2 igg and igm - $129.00

the HSV2 igg type test is $89.00 - you can ask them for the test code from labcorp and look it up under the labcorp website. search the test numbers 163147.Also, be sure to get a copy for your doctor to review if you deside to do that.

waringblender - gracefromHHP - i know - there is too much information that is causing me concern. i feel the only way to move past this is by taking these test.
i really want you guys to be right on this. i will get final result on monday and reveiw with my prodiver. if all come out negative at that point, i will drop this forever. Oh, and i will always protect myself in the future. "don't be stupid about herpes"

i do tahnk you for being a sounding board for this obsessing problem.

Ok,

I have been taking the Herpeselect ®Type 1 & 2 Type Specific IgG ELISA for $129.  Hopefully this is a good and accurate test as I have taken it already 3 times!  Your post about requestatest missing your HSV-1 highly concerns me!!!

You are already receiving excellent advice from Dr Hook about your own possible herpes issues.  If you are only getting more and more anxious reading the posts here on the board then I suggest the best thing you can do for yourself is turn off the computer and stop reading the boards!!

i am positive on HSV type 1 and have been for over 10years that i know of. testing again for HSV type 1 seems like a waste of money at this point

wouldn't you all agree?

hi there

it is me again. i just wanted to share that i got the results back from my test HSV 2 Igg from labcorp at 12 weeks came back negative - that took until the 22nd to get results. being me i went back the clinic that offered a Boikit test because i was going crazy waiting - 12 weeks and 4 days - came back negative.

my primary doctor agrees with you - stop getting tested - he said that most people would have shown by 6 weeks. the adverage is 21 days. he told me to get some theropy

the doctor at the clinic that offered the Biokit test, suggested i retest at 16 weeks.

i also was reading about lymph nodes. i read that if there is virus, lymph node swell to fight the virus. i mentioned the two times that i had a lump on my penis to several doctors i saw and none of them indicated it culd have been a lymph node. (i did not ask  if it could have been a lymph node- i didn't have that info them) - i would imagine that the penis has lymph nodes, but all the information that i find mentions that lymph nodes are all around the penis - none of what i am reading says that are in the penis. could this be why they are not concidering it?

does anyone have information on this

i thought that i would be settled down about this after 12 + weeks neg testing, but the doctor at the clinic put me on a 16 week window now. sorry for being so crazy about this - i really want to put this behind me

thanks

You wouldn't get lymph node swelling on the penis.

It's time to move past herpes.  There's no reason to retest at the 16 week mark either.
