does this sound like herpes or irritation?

Hello Everyone,

So Thursday night I made the mistake of having performing unprotected oral sex and intercourse with a woman. Approximately 6 - 10 hrs later I began noticing some redness and irritation that developed into what appeared to be a few ingrown hairs.  By Saturday morning, the redness had spread and a few more white bumps appeared which started to worry me.  I did trim my pubic region with an electric razor that same night so that is why I initally though razor/follicle irritation.  Over the last two days, the number of white bumps has gone down and nothing has ruptured or ulcerated.  However, I still itch and it is still pretty painful when my boxers rub against my pubic area or i bend the wrong way.  The "rash" is confined to the pubic area above my shaft, and hasn't spread to my shaft, scrotum, or thighs.  I haven't experiencing any flu-like symptoms either...I have an appointment with my doctor on wednesday (thats the earliest I could get) but until then I would really appreciate some input to try and put my mind at ease. Thanks everyone!

My only concern is that it has become more painful over the last few days, the redness has gone down but the pusstules seem to be developing scabs (I'm guessing from my boxers rubbing against them). It sounds to me like you think it is more likely to be ingrown hairs that have become infected, correct? Is gential herpes more of a cluster of blisters that ulcerate into one big lesion or could it be small separate blisters like I have described? Also, is herpes more likely to be found on the shaft than on the pubic area above the shaft? Answers to these questions would be great, thanks!

a newly acquired herpes infection won't occur that quickly.

I think I'm just worried because this is more painful than irritation I've had in the past.  Then again, I usually don't have sex only a few hours after shaving.  Would herpes present in clusters or as single bumps or blisters? Also, I heard somewhere that, for men, herpes usually presents mostly on the shaft of the penis? How common is it to present on the pubic area above the penis?

a newly acquired std isn't going to occur this quickly after sex.

following up on this is the best thing to do.
