ghsv1 infection

my concerns are that I was infected with ghsv1 and that it is sestemic (sp) my reasons are as follows I had the bump on penis head then 2 days later had abdominal pain and excessive body heat and sore throat, white tongue and dry mouth and red blood shot eyes, and frequent urination, red patches on face and chest, chest pain etc.

ive seen 5 doctors at least and showed this to all them all say herpes doesn't do this, my thinking is I may be the exception to the so called rules of herpes, since then my symptoms increased with about half that I have listed have subsided with many new ones appearing. while taking 1 g a day of Valtrex for 5 to 6 months.


to me this makes no sence that I have this many problems from ghsv1 but yet its the only thing that's show in blood work and for any new readers I have had oral hsv1 for over 20 years I don't get it.

hi shadow do u have any update on your condition. I just got diagnosed with ghsv1 and am having lots of the same symtoms as you did. I have had white tounge eye problems frequent urination red patches on the face ect. did they find anything else and have your symptoms subsided?

thanks for your input im going to get checked for encephalitis from hsv1 I have a lot of symptoms that may explain all the symptoms

Yes, stoping the meds for 5 months would be ok for retesting.

thanks, but what about if you didn't take the meds for 5 months then got tested and restarted the meds wouldn't the 5 months of no meds be enough for the test to be accurate? I had test done 10 months from diagnosis. 5 off meds and 5 or so on.

would just like to add my lower back is painful and my muscles above hips are also very sore on and off last couple of days

The meds would interfer with the blood but not the swab as the herpes is on the surface. HSV1 genital is becoming more common now.

I just called a derm dr and she was able to call me back and I told her about my hsv1 blood test and how it was + and the hsv2 was negative she said hsv1 is oral and almost always hsv2 is genital so she said no point in coming in because im already on 1 gram of Valtrex y is this so hard to get doctors to do a swab test?

This is the delimma with not having a swab, and unless you have this done within 48 hours after appearing, you cant rule it out or rule it in. It would be best to see a dermtoligist at this point as they are into swabs in diagnosing all skin conditions.

hi there and thanks again for your knowledge, I have more questions about genital herpes as I have been having irritation on anus for some time now, no penial sores since my diagnosis in may of 2012 but ongoing  symptoms as we have discussed already. I have read many posts on her that say herpes don't last months at a time and even less for hsv1 genital, does genital hsv1 start on penis then next outbreak happen on anus? I believe this to the case for me and its seems to be constant I know this doesn't fit the usual patterns of ghsv1, I have recently been seen by my GP and she states the anal irritation is fungus, I don't think she is at all well informed about herpes at any form or location. as she told me u cant get hsv1 in a different location once you have it already, although I see here on med help that's just not true, anyway im sure its herpes on my anus so what would be the best thing to do as far as seeing another doctor as I have no idea what type of doctor to see, I requested my GP to test the anal sores and she refused, She just said no its not herpes. but I would like a test to confirm rather than just a visual. the Valtrex im taking seems to have no affect on the anal irritation as it has been going on for 2 months or better, is it a back to back outbreak? I have never had any problems like this until last may 2012 and from that point on I have had so many issues 1 after another. so any help with what kind of doctor to see next ?

my ebv titer was 5.00, hsv1 5.00 and I also had shingles last fall this has been a roller coaster for me since  may 2012. I just want some relief, I have not been to work in 1.5 years and just feel like crap every day.
On top of all this I got married to my long time girlfriend of 10 years so u can only imagine the stress this has put on me and my new wife.

I just don't have any energy to get thru a day without all kinds of ailments I have recently had a lyme disease test done and its looking like I may have that too. problem is those tests are very unreliable as of now it looks like I have lyme as well this whole thing started last year while on vacation.

sorry if post to much its just if I can share my story on here and maybe help 1 person in the same situation or get advice from others with un diagnosed issues

I know bud, and I wish at times my answer was different, but I get oral cold sores, penile cold sores a couple of times a year. Shingles every few years. No problems with EB and HHV6 to this point.

The thing I need to do though is trust my body to heal and contain this. There is really not much that can be done with viruses. Sure antivirals help a bit but all I use is the topical creams. I feel all that can be done is eat right, exercise right, keep stress to a minimum and believe that your immune system can do this. That's just my lot in life, I don't rate the quality of life, I just have to maximize it. This may be less than what others have, but its all I've got.

I agree it is annoying when doctors are dismissive and it eventually becomes water off a duck's back to you but you can keep pushing and demand the next steps.

im not furious I just want solid proof this is whats wrong with me im suffering every living moment. what im sick of is medical people say this cant happen and that doesn't happen. my quality of life is a 3 on a scale of 10. im searching for relief from this dreadful disease.

I know we run the risk of infuriating you, but you've got to believe our hearts are in the right place.

You're a free man in a free country so you can certainly believe what you want. Maybe ask yourself this question though, what do you achieve by convincing yourself these symptoms are herpes?

today I have a large red itchy rash on my left hip, burning on face and lips, also red itchy rash on both lower legs itching and burning in all locations.
sore throat and stiff neck, lower spine pain and muscle twitching all over my body.
im convinced its herpes

I get what your saying and if I never had a issue with a penis problem wouldn't keep chasing the herpes train but its the only possible explanation.

all stds have been ruled out other than hsv1 genital, this is real and all my symptoms started after the bump on my penis head. and it was real and so are my symptoms . I post on here so if anyone else is suffering the same issues iam we can share our experiences and maybe help each other.

if you don't like it don't respond im ok with that but don't imply that I need shrink im not crazy. be thankful your not dealing with this as I am. I went from a healthy strong as a bull 42  yr old full of life, walk a mile in my shoes and you will think differently

I agree with Fleedwood. something else is going on with you as your symptoms are all over the place. You talk about herpes but you mention  white tongue, blood shot eyes etc. these are not connected with herpes and its not usual to get a herpes sore on the penis head.
I think you really need some counceling  to get through these issues. If you tested positive for hsv1 its very common as was acquired mostly at childhood. There isnt really much we can offer you here on this subject.
There is no exception to the rule as your creating things that just dont happen with herpes.
I wish you the best but contining to post the same issues and getting the same responses does not accomplish much in addressing your issues.

I think the only sure thing here is that you need to pursue the appropriate medical attention.

There are many other things that need to be considered here as explanation for your symptoms.

Your body has coped so well for so long with HSV1, why would it suddenly stop now?

A lot of people have dropped by here convinced they have systemic issues with HSV1 and nearly all do not. More severe issues with HSV1 impact 1 in several hundred thousands of people who have the infection and in most of these it is diagnosable.

There is not much to be gained by assuming you've drawn systemic HSV1 from life's 'box of chocolates'. Keep going with believing that you will get better and will find the answer as to what it is, or if you don't it, doesn't matter as your body has dealt with it.
