herpes, i think so???

God that one stupid night just wont leave me alone.
i went down on a lapdancer 3 nights ago and instantly got a white tongue next day, then had fever and headache, but wasn't sure if it was my extreme anxiety. The fever unbelievably enough has gone straight away after thinking i might have herpes, about 2 hours ago. Also have a sore throat and  my tongue and lips have been tingling for a day now. From everything i read across the internet, yup looks like herpes. Cant believe i was so stupid, and it will be with me for life. Can anyone recommend what to do? Got a family as well, does that mean i will infect them at anytime? So annoyed with myself... What was i thinking. Anyway help badly needed.
thanks

I should have guessed you were in the UK from your name lol. The incidence of HSV2 is really low in the UK, one of the lowest in the world.

Are you saying you have never had a cold sore in living memory? Or that you had one a long time ago. Check with a parent as to whether you had cold sores as a young child. Once you've got it, you've got it, it never goes away, outbreaks or not.

HIV risk is incredibly low here. CSW test often and even if she had it (1 in thousands) , then there's a 1 in thousands chance of infection. A duo test at 28 days is definitive.

You could only have an oral infection. The kids are at no risk if sores are not present and you don't kiss them. Your wife may be at risk with passionate kissing... maybe a chance to adopt positions with her facing the other way shall we say to avoid spreading your head cold that just won't clear up and mouth ulcers for example.

Adult transmission of HSV1 is quite rare and would occur through passionate kissing mainly. Light kisses and no oral sex should be fine.

Just to summarise, i will need to be tested at 4 months to be sure im clear, and get the full suite,of std tests. I haven't had a coldsore for 20 years, so im pretty sure i didn't already have it. Regarding infection now. Bit confused as i thought herpes was highly contiguous. If you can get it from slightly kissing another person, what's to stop me from getting it from doing the act i did. And i did it for a long time. Obv you know more than me, im just panicking that im going to lose everything. But if it were herpes, how can i prevent passing it on to my wife and kids? I cant avoid them for 4 months. Also going to abstain from sex until i have hiv test. This is all going to bite me in the butt i know it. Well its my own stupid
The internet confuses me so much. How, in your opinion, does herpes generally manifest?

thanks

Giving oral sex to a female is a low risk activity for serious STDs, including any form of HSV. An instant reaction that you describe is unlikely to be HSV.

You may already have an oral cold sore infection and not know it and the stress is bringing on an outbreak.

I would get a blood test for IgG antibodies for HSV1 and HSV2 straight away. If it is positive, then you've had HSV for a while. If you have HSV1 then there was next to no chance of a further oral infection with HSV2.  Potentially also the general panel of STD tests in 1-2 weeks is worthwhile.

You will then need to repeat the IgG testing in 12 to 16 weeks to be confident in a negative.

In general, I would suggest this was low risk of anything.
