herpes false positive?

I was tested for Herpes 1 and 2 and the results were positive for both 1 and 2.
I have never had symptoms but did have unprotected sex.
I told my last partner, and he was tested, and came back negative.
I repeated the test but the same results came back.  I do not know exactly which test was used.
I have three questions:
1. is it possible that I do not have Herpes?
2. the tests showed a high titer...what is the significance of that?
3. I am positive for epstein bar and have had many immunizations for my employment, (VEE. EEE. WEE, Rift Valley Fever, Botulinum, smallpox, to name a few.) and wonder if any of these could cross react to give a false positive test result for herpes.

I'm assuming you picked the right gender and are female and have male partners. If so, if you take daily suppressive therapy, avoid sex any time you have anything going on genitally and use condoms, your male partner is 99% likely not to contract hsv2 from you each year. that's the same odds of getting pregnant as ideal use with the pill to give you something to compare it with.

also you already know that yes indeed you can be in a relationship and not transmit it - you just got out of one and your partner was negative.

You can only transmit the infection to a person that comes in contact with that site during an outbreak or you are shedding the virus.  So if you have HSV-1 oral and have a coldsore present and you kiss someone you can transmit the virus that way.  So avoid kissing.  While you have a low risk of transmitting without symptoms it is again low and really not worth the worry.  

There is not a 100% method of not transmitting.  However, people can go their whole life time without infecting their partner.  

Using the combination of avoiding sexual contact during outbreaks and using daily antiviral therapy you can increase your partners chance of NOT getting HSV by 98% a year.  A good example is Grace has both HSV-1 and HSV-2 she is in a relationship and hasn't had any problems.

Grace, I am not in a relationship now.  Can I ever be in a relationship without spreading the disease? From what I understand, there is no 100% besides abstinence. And can I spread both types 1 and two through kissing?

your hsv igg's are well over the typical false positive range. you have no reason to doubt your hsv1 and hsv2 positive status.   since your last partner tested negative, you've had hsv2 since prior to that partner ( assuming they were properly tested ).

Hello Grace.I was tested on 6/17/2010 and again on 7/12/2010 and got back the following (same) results for each blood draw:
HSV 1/2 IGG, Herpeselect
Type Specific AB
HSV 1 IGG Type Specific
     AB             >5.00  H  Index
HSV 2 IGG Type Specific
     AB             >5.00 H  Index

Index           Interpretation
1.10          Positive
This assay is type specific and will differentiate between HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections.  A single positive result only indicates previous immunologic exposure and the level of antibody response may not be used to determine active infection or disease stage.  The test should be repeated in 4-6 weeks when negative ar equivocal results are obtained in suspected early herpes simplex disease.
The performance of this assay has not been established for pediatric populations, for neotatal screening, otr for the testing of immunocompromised patients.
Grace, is this the end of any other reason I am coming up posistive?  Is there any other reason or nay other test out there?  Again, I am symptom free, my last partner was a year ago and he tested negative.  I also suspect I have many antibodies in my system which could lead to a flase positive.  Please advise, and Thank you.  this_cannot_be

I will provide you with the exact test results once I get them from my doctor.
I did work for the government and was required to receive many viral immunizations; I just wondered if any of these antibodies are cross reacting with the herpes tests.
