hsv-1 inside mouth?

I have genital hsv-1 for over 3 years now. Don't get outbreaks. I have been with my current boyfriend for a bit now. We have protected genital sex and unprotected oral sex. Our decision. Last week he develops these sore spots inside his mouth. One is under his tongue, one is on the very tip of his tongue, and one on the roof. They are all very small in diameter. The one under his tongue has a small white area with red around, others are just red. These sores are accompanied with him feeling sick and swollen lymph nodes. All classic of hsv. It's painful for him to eat, even swallow. I'm unsure because it says its rare to get hsv inside the mouth, those are considered canker sores. He has never had issues with canker sores before. Does anyone experience sores inside of mouth like this, and could I be safe to assume this is his first exposure? Any insight would be great. I have never passed this on to someone. I'm stressing for him. No genital symptoms though.

many viruses can cause these symptoms as well as reactions to chemicals. it's unfortunate that he didn't follow up properly on this for better answers :(

no, he didnt go to the doctor. the sores cleared up in about 10 days. he was tested before we were together and was negative for both, I'm not sure exactly how long ago this was though. I know the risk of giving him my hsv is low with genital type 1. I just dont know what else it could be.

these don't sound like oral herpes. has he been seen and had any exam done?

was he tested for herpes prior to you two starting to have sex together?
