Just an add on: Along with the sore throat that appeared 10 ays post exposure, I also had a stiff neck on the same side on which my throat kept hurting.
i could not get my herpes outbreak cultured. My doctor does not see any further point in testing for hsv-2 and hsv-1 antibodies as I always tested low positive on hsv-2.
Grace: Can we even know just by the outbreak behavior if its a primary outbreak or recurrent..
I mean my details are like:
1. lip swelling and a lesion appearing on the right side of the lip 3 days after exposure which forms a cold sore as days progress. Lasts for about 10 days(13 days post exposure) before completely healing.
2. sore throat at about 10 days after exposure lasting about 5 days
3. pus collection under infected wisdom tooth (does herpes even do that)
4. Feverish feeling at about 3 weeks after exposure
I mean it would be great to know if these symptoms can be associated with primary or recurrent outbreak by jotting down when does sore throat and fever appear in primary infection if the blister starts appearing 3 days post exposure.
Just, being able to figure out if this was a primary or recurrent infection will help me a lot in further decision making. Are there any pointers??
Also one more thing, during initial infection, along with herpes sore on the lip, do the area where the virus first entered the oral mucosa also get inflamed. I mean I just got the herpes lesion on right side of the lip. Can I conclude, that was the portof entry for my herpes infection.
Answers will be highly appreciated
it was your hsv1 recurring, not a newly acquired hsv2 oral infection. you were sick and it triggered the recurrence.
Actually, I have some additional details.
I have always had oral herpes breakout every once in 2 years since childhood. So, I was always under the impression that I have HSV-1. Few years ago, I got all STD test done and I cam up borderline on HSV-2 even though I never had a genital outbreak.
Now, after this kissing incidence, I got a oral breakout on the lips exactly 3 days later at the same spot I use to previously get & it resolved by 15-16 days after exposure.
Simultaneously, a week after exposure, I developed sevre throat pain on swallowing and jaw and neck stiffness on right side.
15-16 days after exposure my wisdom tooth appeared infected although it used to get infected in the past also due to food logging.
So, there are 2 possibilities here. Either I got a recurrent HSV-1 outbreak or I got a new HSV-2 infection implying my imlying my past hsv-2 borderline positive tests as false positive.
I hope you get the point what I am trying to cnvey
you are assuming you have hsv2 orally which is a very erroneous assumption!! not many folks have hsv2 orally for starters. those who do, the virus doesn't shed much at all so it's highly unlikely that you contracted hsv2 orally from kissing let alone the brevity of the kisses you describe isn't a real risk either.
you have already had your hiv questions answered on the hiv forum.

Hi Grace,
I read following response from you:
"the virus does not sit on the skin and work its way into the body. it is forced into the body with the heat and friction of sexual contact. if you are infected, you are contagious within 24-48 hours of being infected regardless of if you show obvious signs or not.

Now my worry is say if I kissed a girl 2 times for 30 seconds with an interval of 5 minutes between them and from the first kiss I got hsv2. Do you think within 5 minutes, hsv2 can create a doorway for hiv infection if i kissed her after 5 minutes again.
Could you please comment..
