in desperate need of help reading my results

I am30 yrs old, I recently went to my Obgyn for my annual and asked to be tested for stds. I also went to a medical specialist in the same day due to my blood pressure being high. She asked did my obgyn draw blood because she wanted to send in an order to have my testosterone tested. Anyway i receive a call from this medical specialist regarding my bloodwork thinking its for the testosterone only to find out from them and not my Obgyn that i tested positive for herpes. I go in the very next day to discuss these results with her. She is asking me if i have ever had an outbreak such as pimples something that looks like a razor burn a cold sore. Never had anything! She also tells me that " i wouldn't worry about it" so she gives me pamphlets to read up on and also An addenda of my results which reads: hsv1/2 igg value 23.2; hsv 2 igg,  type specific 2.95; hsv IBM 1/2 combination <0.91. They're saying that i have genital herpes. I have been with the same man for a year and we just recently broke up 5 months ago. Theyre saying i contracted this infection 6 months ago. Wouldn't the value b higher? IM just not understanding! I contacted my Obgyn and they're telling me i did test positive And my doctor is supposed to be calling me back today. What questions do i need to ask them because this is all new to me and very confusing. I've been trying to do research online and its not making sense to me but the one thing that did stand out was any value between 1.1 and 3.5 needs to be retested. My medical specialist doctor wants me to come back in 3 months to REPEAT TEST but to me that's a long time. Please help me!!!

the combined hsv1/2 result of 23.2 actually means nothing. it means you might have 1 , 2 or not herpes causing it to be positive.

you need the WB herpes test at this point. Your provider probably uses labcorp and you can't get it through them. If you have a quest lab near you, ask your provider to order test #34534 through them. if your local quest can't find the test, let them know that it's a send out to the U of washington and to look it up!

To me it doesn't matter how long I've been exposed i just want to know for sure if i have this or not! Can it come back negative or do i have a 50/50 chance? So there's no need to another test at the office.? It needs to be a WB test to know for sure? What kind of test do they usually use at the doctors office? And what does the hsv 1/2 igg value of 23.2 mean? Thanks for all ur help!

There's no way to know how long you've been infected from the blood testing you had done.

since it's been 5 months since you last had sex, you can seek out a herpes WB blood test to confirm your status. No reason to wait another 3 months and retest, you have a low positive that needs confirmed with the WB as well as you weren't tested for hsv1 and the WB will test for that too.

encourage your provider to read the 2010 cdc herpes guidelines to learn more about herpes testing and confirming low positives so that they can best serve their patients. they shouldn't be drawing herpes igm testing either at this point :(
