is this a cold sore?

My fiance has had a positive blood test for HSV1 but never had any symptoms.  Last Wednesday he came home with what he thought was a zit on his upper lip, right where it meets the skin.  We watched it for a few days and on Friday it was pretty clear it wasn't a pimple.  We thought it was a cold sore so he immediately started on Abreva.  He didn't have any pain, burning, tingling or itching before or during.  Today, about five days after we noticed nothing has changed with these mystery bumps.  They sort of look like blisters, but they aren't super red, more pink, painless, and are not oozing or weeping or forming one large open lesion.  They look exactly the same as they did on Friday.  We're wondering if these truly are cold sores or something else?  Do cold sores always follow the same cycle and symptoms or can they sometimes not pop?   Could abreva be preventing the sore from going through all the cycles?

Hi, since hes positive for hsv1, this may very well be a herpes out break as does fit the discription and the location is correct. Abreva aids in healing. If your seeking confirmation on what they are then have a doctor swab test them. It might be a good idea to do that because if its truly a breakout, you would want to know this to avoid contact during its appearance. Other wise youll be constantly guessing what it is. It should be swabbed within 48 hours after appearing so if a new one shows up, do have it swabbed.

Thanks.  We are beyond the 48hr window and no other sores are appearing.  It just seems weird that he isn't moving through the stages.  And it seems weird that he hasn't had any pain.  Do all cold sores heal after 2 weeks?

I had this same thing happen. Did you guys figure anything out? I have a red bump that came up on my upper lip. It's a pinkish red but it goes away an comes back every other day or week. Never breaks open just get a little red then I put Vaseline on it over night an by morning it's down not gone but not noticeable other then when I get really close in the mirror.
