mild, recurring shingles?

I've been experiencing a recurring rash on my left buttock for over a year.  I went to a health clinic and was told it was from the Varicella virus.  I tested negative for Herpes Simplex and the doctor said it looks like Shingles but it's difficult to know for sure.  It's extremely mild and quite itchy and it keeps coming back every three to five weeks in just that one place.  Does this sound like any other type of rash or has anyone experienced Shingles like this?  My immune system seems fine but I am a single mom and a grad student and do tend to be under a lot of stress.  I'm dating again and this is embarassing.  Any thoughts?

shingles won't reoccur like this.

how did they test you for shingles? did they just do a visual exam or did they do actual testing?

you should see a dermatologist for further evaluation of your symptoms at this point.

I have the same thing!! It's like a little patch of itchy bumps & for me it comes back every 3 months I. The same place either on my inner thigh or my chest. I've made several appointments to go to the dermatologist but by the time it's time for me to go its gone & they can't take a piece of it to see what it is. Did you find out what yours was ??

I have been experiencing something like this for several years. My outbreak occurs on my right buttock.  My doctor and I think it is related to shingles.  It does come back when I have been under more stress.   My doctor has prescribed Valtrex for me and this shortens the duration and keeps it from progressing as much.  Just this month, I had another outbreak, and it occurred in a different spot on my same buttock, before never more than an inch away, this time it was 3 inches closer to my spine.

I first got a rash at 28 years old about the size of a quarter on right buttock/base of spine. Thought it was some kind of spider bite but my Dr. did a scrape and it was shingles. Now I am 51 and for the last 4 or 5 years they reoccur much more often. Last year it was every 3 months sometimes to the day and then I had about a 5 month period without any but now I have had them 2 months in a row almost to the day. I was writing it in my calander trying to go long enough to get the shot (6 months) that is when I noticed they were occurring at exact times. Never really bad, same small blister on left or right side of base of spine, higher or lower sometimes but  I do notice I feel worse , tired, horrible back pain for a couple of days. I have just been using the zovirax cream for years but I think I will get the pills to have on hand to since it seems to be getting worse. One site I read said it can reoccur more often relating to hormone changes, wish we could find some answers!
