molluscum contagiosum vs herpes

I am a 40 yr old male and recently (approx 2 weeks ago) noticed pimple like growths predominately around the testicle/scrotum area and a few along my inner thigh.  None of these are painful or even soar to touch, I do shave some of the general region and initially thought they were a result of shaving  but when I saw the few along my inner thigh where I don't shave I became more concerned.  The pimples are very small appox 1 millimeter in diameter, round slightly darker around the sides with a lighter (off-white) center; also they are not really formed in clusters but sporadically about.  As I mentioned I have not felt any pain even after I nicked a couple shaving they bled a little but no pain or pus that I could see.  I've looked at pictures of both Molluscum and herpes on line and the Molloscum images generally seem to look more like what I have since may of the herpes images look a bit more irregular in shape.  If this was herpes wouldn't 1 or more of the pimples cause discomfort or pain?  Additionally, the last time I had a sexual relations was a little over a few months ago.  Is there a sure-fire way to tell the difference between the 2?

Thank you very much for the response, I've since been STD tested and examined by a Dr and it is molluscum; guess I now have to wait it out and apply the cream prescribed by my Dr.  Again, I really appreciate your response; I was completely freaked out about the whole experience.

Hi. a sign of molluscum is that there is a dent in the middle. Its not really common to get herpes sore in the scrotum as the skin is thick and few nerves for the herpes to surface from.
Another thing that causes bumps would be hpv. These are referred to as warts but i dont feel these are in  your case as you have so many.
You are correct in that with herpes there should be some pain as are blister type lesion with clear fluid in them
