red bump no text book symptons, positive Hsv1 negative Hsv2 positive igm

Hey

I'm a 30year old male and had unprotected sex 6 weeks ago with 36 year old devorced woman with two kids.4.5 weeks after I noticed a single red bump on the beginning of the head of my penis. It had a very smooth and shiny texture (very pearl like and firm)There was NO pain, blister, burning or any text book symptons of herpes.

I went to my doctor within 48 hours. He had a look at it and said it doesn't look herpic, and that it might be syphilis or MC,he took a swab and did blood test for syphilis and herpes select.

The test was IGG positive for Hsv1 ( I can't remember ever having a cold sore)but IGG negative for Hsv2 and the syphilis was negative too.Because the Hsv2 was negative he asked for a Igm test that came back low positive.

He never gave me the result of the swab test so I guess it was negative too.

The bump never changed in any shape or form and just started to slowly fade away after 3 days like a blind pimple and was completely gone in 8 days.

I play rugby that is a full contact sport and dirt gets everywhere (if that counts for anything)
Going for a IGG test again at the 12week mark but would like to know what you think.

Is a red bump always 100% a STD????

mc isn't going to go away on its own in 3 days though.

there isn't a test for molluscum.  it's a visual diagnosis for the most part. You can biopsy it and send it to the pathology lab but most providers don't.

odds are this wasn't std related at all.

the igm herpes test is falsely + 1/3 of the time. we don't recommend them being used to diagnose herpes infections in adults.  A + igm is actually meaningless when it comes to herpes testing.

Hey

thanks for the reply. After looking at it the doc did put MC on the top of the list. The only thing is that the bump healed too soon for a typical MC.

I did treat it with Iodine cause I read that, that could make a MC lesion heal faster.

He didn't test for MC tough.

He did tell me that with the IgM and IGG tests we have now it's 50/50 for herpes

Disregard the IgM test as it's pretty much worthless for herpes testing. IgG is the one to go by.

It could easily be MC by the description, and the incubation time - did the doc test for that as well? You know you tested negative for herpes, and the symptoms showed up well past the typical timeframe of 2-20 days post-encounter.

Your HSV1 positive status, even in the absence of symptoms, is most likely oral.
