sad :(

I am so confused i went to planned parenthood 3 weeks ago and tested for std's including hsv 1 and 2...I did not hear anything untill 1 week ago in a letter mailed to me, All it said " You have herpes" I was like wow!!! I never had symptoms so I was confused..Thank god I tested neg for everything else...But positive for HSV 1 and 2...I was not giving any index for hsv 1 but for HSV 2  5.0..I have been reading about the index that is a high positive..What are my chances of that being a false positive...I was told that a IGg test was performed when i asked for a copy of my labs I was not giving a copy...IDK what to do here I am currently waiting on my new labs...So what are the stats on false positive with that high of a index?? Has there ever been a false positive with an higher index?

the rates of transmission to males from females is very low in general. it's up to you and your partner to discuss what precautions you want to take. Personally I think the peace of mind and added protection of suppressive therapy is worthwhile in the beginning of a relationship when everything is new.

yes you can have this and not transmit it to partners. the rates of transmission from females to males are overall very low.  did you read the herpes handbook yet?

having hsv1 takes the "edge" off of a newly acquired hsv2 infection so that you are less likely to have a very obvious initial ob. other than that, it doesn't seem to have much of an effect.

Grace I have been reading that If you have the HSV 1 Prior to HSV 2 infection it seems to kinda keep the HSV 2 in control is that true? I have accepted the fact that I am positive now curious on why no symptoms. I have not passed this to any of my previous bF's either.I am getting the western blot just as a second confirmation...I will post my + results when they come lol

no idea where you can get one. you can try calling the biokit folks and seeing if anyone locally orders the test from them.

Grace i was wondering if you knew where in MN i can get a Biokit that rapid testing just for HSV 2.. I know it is a long shot but I just want a second positive on that HSV2 just being I have no symptoms as you know. I know any indexes >5 they say are def +.Then you said this."typically having hsv1 is what causes the false positives on today's igg tests, not other infections."  I tryed to talk my doctor in to ordering the WB...She said I need to except it and move on...I am honestly trying but with no symptoms and being sick I just can not..I explained being as the WB is 99 accurate if i tested + I told her I would just get over it...and nothing urgg She wont so the next step is the Bio kit..

the parts of the herpes virus that the current igg tests look for are pretty specific and aren't really influenced much by other infections. typically having hsv1 is what causes the false positives on today's igg tests, not other infections.

Grace I have had both mono and influenza A...Mono when I was 16 and inflenza A in 2002 ... and also a possibility that I have A RF in my blood would any of this maybe cause the +... Do these past infections have maybe a nutch to do with the HSV infections?

as I said before, I sometimes think getting the WB is the peace of mind some folks need. I think we've only ever had 1 poster get a WB with a result over 5 and it came back negative. the rates of false positives get very low once you hit the 5 mark.

there's actually no reason to report results over 5. the numeric results are only important for helping with the false positive issues and since they are rare in results over 5, most labs don't even bother reporting the results, just report as over 5 so that the provider knows no further testing needs done.

Just to let you know Grace while I was at church on Sunday PP finally called me back and said that there was no numerical value because it was >5 .So in "her " eyes that was definitely positive.  so the lab reported my IGG levels >5 positive that is  it.. Then she  said "to stop obsessing over it".. I told her this is my body and my health and she was being rude..SMH.. anyhow I asked her what kind of test she did not even know!! I wonder if she even cared she also told me that 3 other patients tested the same as I did, came back three months later and tested negative....WOW that is  all I can Say!! The test at Mayo was a Bio Rad 505 I talked to the doctor and he said these test often give a false positive if you are sick with another infection..Back to the drawing board so I have not had sex with anyone I am going to wait the four months and order the western Blot being I have not had any symptoms and it has been almost 2 months since I FounD out...

O am sorry to keep asking these questions but looking at my results from PP the index say HSV 1>5 H no range HSV 2 >5 no numerical value as well... Should there be a numerical value or not necessarily? I called PP and surprise no return call...In fact they are acting very unprofessional about this whole situation!! Am I wrong is asking for specific numbers? Or do the test not calculate the range?

most likely that you have hsv1 orally and hsv2 genitally.

keep asking questions :)

glad you are seeing the ENT :))

igm testing is greatly flawed. current CDC guidelines are that it not be used on adults.

I think the peace of mind of getting the WB is very worthwhile. just wish is was simpler to get...sigh.

NO they said that I would need to see a specialist which I am tommrow  (ENT)
Also I went to planned parenthood today to get copies of my labs...And guess what There was nothing in my file about my HSV testing...That is crazy they said they would have a complete medical file for me tommrow... Also with my test from Mayo they said that the HSV AB screen was a IGM test.. I am most likely not infectious at the moment of the test...But unless i am ignorant here AB stands for antibodies right? This is crazy I am trying to order the western Blot...I am trying to accept the fact that I have herpes but with all this mis information I am so confused and its stressing me out!!! Do not know what to do..

not likely either of these affected your herpes igg test results.

they didn't give you antibiotics for an ecoli and strep b throat infection?  they aren't viruses.

Grace just another quick question..I went to the doctor for my throat It has been hurting for several months...I found out that i have Streptococcus B Beta HUS which is uncommon for my throat from what I heard..Also I have E.coli in the same place...In reading on this the IGG (proteins) antibodies are used to fight off bacteria and viral infections.. Could this have effected my test? I know it is a long shot but with confusing information and being  asystematic I figured it was worth asking...I was not prescribed any antibiotics they said its viral and would have to run its coarse.. What are your thoughts?
